Re: Iphone, worth the fuss?
I was going to buy an iPhone, but I went for a HTC HD2 in the end.
I agree with what was said above, the iPhone will always be popular, because it's "cool" to have one. There is millions and zillions of apps, which fart, let you imagine/pretend you're firing a shot gun, or swinging a light sabre. Anyone can pick it up, use it, and be happy.
The WM in general might take a lil more getting used to (if they aren't just using it straight foward), more of a techies phone. I'm guessing Andriod is the same.

I can't say I despise iTunes, largely because I've never used it. Probably never will. I don't, and won't, download music. If it's music I want, I buy the CD.
Ironically, mainly I use the Creative player to back up memory cards in my camera. Then they're getting a bit full, I just plug the camera into the player and dump content on the Creative. Then I switch memory cards for a fresh one. That way, I've got a backup if the card fails. Not a conventional use of an MP3 player, I grant you. :D

most mp3 players arent usb hosts though.. thats pretty nifty
Re: Iphone, worth the fuss?
Heres my opinion, take it or ignore it ... up to you!.
Iphone- To me its a waste of precious cash, very expensive and doesnt do much for me. The reason being is because i like to use my phone for texting, phoning, browsing web(recently!) and taking photos. The camera on the iphone isnt great by any means and i dont seem to get on with capacitive touch screens (i must be mad, iphone touch and lg arena were the ones i tried and didnt get a long with it).
Dont get me wrong, the iphone is certainly a good device if all you want to do is use apps for your life and play games :L. Its also good for some other things that i dont know yet, its more of a 'fashion' statement then anything else i think simply because its the same with all Apple products, the ipod/mac are also like that.
I got a Sandisk sansa clip as it was better than the ipod in price and sound quality, i then got a sansa fuze later this year as again it had better audio and better price along with a microsd slot (have 16gb of storage now for £55!).
My LG Renoir has to be my favourite phone so far, it is incredibly reliable, isnt too slow (yes it could be faster but i got used to it) and it takes great pictures, doesnt touch my DSLR but for a phone it certainly is great and the same goes for the samsung pixon, best camera phones ever. The LG has a good enough battery life for me aswell, i get 2 or 3 days out of it which isnt bad considering i browse the web for like 30mins, send quite a few text, make some phone calls and take some pictures(about 5) , this is done pretty much every day!.
Ok now i went onto my renoir and a bit off topic but heres the short version:
If price is no object and you want to look 'in with the crowd' and dont need a good camera then the iphone is probably a good buy for you.
However, if you want a good camera and dont want to be much of a sheep and have a budget then maybe look elsewhere.
Pixon12 is a good camera phone(12mp now, mp doesnt make everything great but its the new re finned version). HTC hero 2 is a good phone also.
@Who ever said they worry bout their iphone breaking, is it really that delicate? Ive dropped my renoir tones now (and that is literal :L), about 100 times and most of the time its outside on the concrete and i forget to put it in a different pocket when moving my kayak off the car(falls out and smacks on ground). has just a few scuffs/scratches and works flawlessly still, i would never expect it to fail me so far :)
I expect the iphone shouldnt break to easily either so stop worrying :)
Re: Iphone, worth the fuss?
Just read that Vodafone will have the iPhone soon and are going to have "surprise" exclusive Vodafone only apps for it - so you might want to switch networks if they come up with a good offering...

No, I've never downloaded music either. I was forced into it when somebody bought me one of the original iPod Shuffle units, 1GB I think. I actually managed to lose that, one of the only valuable things I've lost, although I didn't use it by that point so it wasn't a big deal.
Point was, buying an iPod tied you into iTunes, and iTunes tied you into Quicktime, and also had a nasty habit of wrecking your media library and trying to re-encode everything. So there was no way I was going to be getting an iPod - especially not when everyone and their dog has an iPod these days... interestingly my girlfriend was given one of the srubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishy Nano iPods and has almost given up using it now, nabbing my Creative instead.

I think the Creatives just act as big USB stick, albeit with their own file structure dotted around. I just use WMP and it syncs all my music/videos/whatever I want over to it, but it doesn't look much different to a USB if you start browsing it manually.
My shuffle did that as well, but it was a massive pain in the neck because you effectively had to partition it - made it a fairly useless feature for me.

Downside was that my mum said she'd buy it for me for Christmas, and I think she had to go to virtually every shop in a 20 mile radius before she found one because nobody could understand why she didn't want an iPod. Nonetheless, I got the right one in the end, which I have to say was a miracel in itself!
Same here, I despise Apple generally. I do perfectly well with my Zen (Vision:M 60Gb), Blackberry and PC thanks.

This is so true.
Re: Iphone, worth the fuss?
my 2ps worth...
i just got the iphone on orange and LOVE it.
after playing around with my mums original ipod touch, i was so impressed i got one myself.
the iphone was a natural progression, as i didnt want to carry my phone, my work phone and an mp3 player around with me.
i have no issue with itunes - been using it for years. took a while to get used to it, but found the joys of auto playlists a god send.
and i have not bought one song from the itunes store. (actually, thats a lie - i have bought 1 track) - all the rest were from CDs.
the apps can be useful - now i can IM where-ever i am. and the gps/google maps has helped me out already when walking around a strange town (if you can call clapham strange :P)
And can i say im a PC user through and though, and i have always thought apple products over priced - certainly the first few ipods. But after using them (definately the ipod touch), i have grown to like them and am loving the iphone.
i'd still never buy a mac though.
go have a play with an iphone if a mate has got one, or go to an apple shop. see what you think...
iphone = marmite

I agree, I've found that apple users tend not be very techy (even though some of them think they are). Android and WM phones take a bit more time to get used to.
Anyhow I've just got google car navigation (the one that only been released in the USA) to work on my magic, and its great and above all its free!:mrgreen::mrgreen:

Your username really is appropriate.
I went from a HTC Touch HD to a iphone 3gs, the difference really was like night and day, so much friendlier to use and much faster.
The iphone has by far the best apps and games, sure there is alot of dross but android is still pretty far behind on the best ones, win mo is just laughable really.
iphone is a really slick device, very glad i got it for my non-work phone. what lets it down a bit is the fairly low screen res, limited multitasking and the usually apple bollox - no micro usb/app lock down etc.
Re: Iphone, worth the fuss?
I kept going back to the iPhone when I was looking at new phones, I'd decided I wanted a bit more than the SE stuff was offering.
Then I went for the HTC Touch HD, then being the gits they are 3 months later they released the HD2 so I had one of those as well. I really like the HD2 apart from the capacitive screen, if it was the same sort of screen as the HD then it'd be brilliant..
ps, my HD is for sale on ebay btw :D
Re: Iphone, worth the fuss?
I love my HTC Magic and really want an HTC Hero as I've not found a modded Sense UI rom that runs totally smooth on the 32B Magic yet. If you appreciate the flexibility that the open source android o/s can give you the i'd recommend you check out an android phone of some flavour, with the Hero being my personal favorite
