I had a play with one yesterday at the office. Very nice, very slim, very fast, however some apps don't work yet as the version of the OS is so new but that will be fixed in the coming weeks. The screen is beautilful and the animated backgrounds are quite funky. However I have to say i still prefer Sense UI so I may wait until HTC release the Bravo with Sense UI on Eclair/Flan

Re: 5th Jan 2010 - Nexus One (Google phone)...

I've yet to play with anything remotely similar to smart phones or phones with touchscreens. All my phones have been the usual affair...

OK that was rather quick by google...apparently it has shipped and I have a DHL tracking number. I thought getting the phone engraved meant it takes upto 72 hours longer? Anyhow, not complaining just surprised it is on it's way!

I'll have a look at maps/satnav/turn-by-turn/google voice once I get my filthy mitts on it.

Excited? Oh yes I am....scared I might damage the phone...hell yeah.

Speaking of which, because I am buying this on it's own...what's the best way to insure the phone?

Ring your service provider and ask for a quote? Will be expecting a mini-Hexus-review once you've got it!

Re: 5th Jan 2010 - Nexus One (Google phone)...

Just a little update. It's left Cincinnati hub...and no updates since then. Where I work, spoke to the supply manager who says it should be here by friday latest (if it was a proper consignment for where i work, which it isn't but I will apply same logic...if a little wrong )

I'll probably fire up a thread in the reviews sub-forum but I have NO idea what people expect me to say, check, do etc. Suggestions most welcome - though I cannot instantly check 3G connectivity due to where I live has no 3G. I have to go at least 15 miles to get a 3G signal.

Think of me as Hexus test subject...if it arrives...

Ahh Bunjiweb, I am going to jump ship and get a 30 day contract till i find a plan that suits what I need. I am guessing that with the increase in connectivity and applications I will use the phone for more than just text, calls and pictures...ie free bundled internet

    A fellow crazy nutter! LoL!

We may have to start a thread if we both have common issues... (and how to fix problems, if we can)

The problem with looking at the android support page (google support forum for the phone) is that it is flooded with lots of people asking the same questions.

You'll probably be able to do a better review of the phone than myself, seeing as you are more well versed (at least from what i can garner from yourr replies) in smartphones, what to expect and what to look for.

    EDIT
Well for whatever reason the parcel is in currently in Manchester...Why do I get the feeling they are going to deliver to the wrong address....especially as the email notification I just got has an incomplete address...not the first time a parcel has ended up near manchester...

    EDIT 2
Well Manchester depot have sent it on it's way quoting "Shipment arrived at incorrect facility. Sent to correct destination." *rollseyes* It spent almost 3 hours going north only for it to come back down south. Will it ever get to me? Will it be in one piece?!

    EDIT 3
...and it is STILL in Manchester...all day in Manchester...

    EDIT 4
Apparently it is heading in the right direction now...called up DHL, turns out for whatever reason my address was incomplete. I look at my order form and delivery address...tis all there so how did DHL USA fail to get all of my postcode and the majority of the address?

Sorry to hear that yours is delayed, mine turned up a minute ago at work. No time to play with yet.

Re: 5th Jan 2010 - Nexus One (Google phone)...

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAA finally arrived...in a white van...and signed for by someone else. Great system DHL...

Anyhow, it arrived just after 2pm, got a couple of pictures of it though it's still all wrapped up. Time to go home (from work) charge her up and have a play.

P.S. Jimborae, I am slightly surprised you jumped on the Nexus One seeing as you quite like HTCs Sense UI.

P.P.S. The engraving is there too, and it shipped darn fast from the states. The fail was DHL (which seems to be common where I am...hence why work never uses DHL).

    .
You're right I do love the Sense UI, however this was bought through work, so I can have a play and I'm sure it wont be long before there's a Sense UI port for the Nexus One, if there isn't already.

Will have to head on over to XDA Developers and see what the score is. I quite like Eclair, I'm running a hacked rom of it on my HTC Magic and it's quite good, even on that under powered phone.

I wanted that phone until i heard about the HTC Desire which is apparently the cosmetically advanced version of the nexus one = D
