Well, spoke to CS last night after a relatively long wait, and after I explained what had happened, I asked for a courier to pick up from my work. They placed me on hold for a while and then unfortunately, they let m know that the courier place was now shut so couldnt really do anything.
I asked if they could contact me back and the CSR said it was fine, we set a time of around 1000 this morning... and I'm still waiting. If they dont get back to me today, then I'll call again tonight (though I have new PC goodies to play with, so cba to waste too much time on them) to try and arrange again.
Hopefully it wont take too long to sort out. But at least they know now.
PS. Love the 5800, its a fantastic vfm phone![]()
tbh you have told them about it and they were suppsed to get back to you about pick up, i would not be chasing them to find out what they have planned but hey thats me
But it wouldn't be difficult to would out:
It depends on the company, assuming CS believed the 1st order was not delivered (possibly loss) the first handset is blocked then the 2nd order was placed.
If CS reviewed the account it could show 2 imei numbers than have been sent out very close to each other which they can then check for usage. Possible courses of action:
Tell the customer thay can keep the free handset.
Call the customer to confirm which handset is been used politely ask for the other handset back
Block the handset that is not been used with the sim card for the account.
Well, I didnt manage to get through to them when I got back from work Thurs and yesterday (and during lunch was a waste of my time... never got through) so will have to try and skive off work for a bit at around 1500 should be just about the right time to get through.
Will def let them know that the onus is on them etc. I got better things to do, like play Mass Effect 2. I dont have time to be making calls![]()
You can sell it for spare parts if the phone is blocked for whatever reason.
Saracen has pretty much covered the legal side of the situation, and the morality of it is up to you.
So let me give you my practical experience. My best mate used to have a very poor credit rating, so anything that required him to get credit he used to put in my name- his mobile contracts, his first Sky subscription, and a couple of other things that I now forget. Yes, I know that's a bit dodgy but I've known the bloke since I was 13. I will not be mentioning specific phones or operators here for obvious reasons.
Anyway, he had a Blackberry for a good while and was pretty happy with it, but eventually got fed up with some sort of text messaging bug that it had that his operator was unable to sort out. So he went to another operator for one of the very early touchscreen phones- which had problems, and was sent back. So then they sorted him out with the slightly better model, with a touchscreen and a flip out qwerty keypad. That IIRC had a dead pixel and a faulty earphone speaker so that all the calls were distorted. At this point he got fed up and insisted they collect the phone and cancel the contract. They never collected the phone, and I didn't hear anything for a while, until I got a call from a debt collector demanding money on behalf of the operator. I told him to shove it, called the operator and demanded that it was sorted out. In the end I ended up paying the operator about £30 for the month of so called service he'd had (which my mate paid me back IIRC), the debt collectors never called me again, and the phone is still, I'm pretty sure, sat under a pile of old computer gear about 2' away from me (can't be bothered to dig it out). Bit of a waste of what I expect was once quite a valuable phone, but hey.
So he persevered with the old Blackberry for a bit. The issue he had was never resolved so he decided to get a Blackberry from a third operator. That had the same issue, or some other equally irritating one. So then he decided to try a Palm handset, which they sent him. They never collected the Blackberry though, and never seemed to ask for it back. I insisted, since the contract was in my name, that he wait a while to see if they'd realise their mistake. After a month, he flogged it on Gumtree, and to this day neither of us have heard anything.
The Palm ended up being worse in many ways than his original Blackberry, and the third operator's customer service bloody useless, so that in the end he just reduced the contract to its bare minimum and paid it off early. He's now got a very recent Blackberry with his original provider and is very happy with it (and also is an irritating knob TBH, constantly going on about how Blackberrys are Movers' and Shakers' phones etc). In fact he has two Blackberrys now, his own (which I think is probably a Bold 9000, although he doesn't seem to get 3G?), and a similar but older work one. Why they can't sync his personal one to his work email and just bung him £20 extra a month on his salary is beyond me
.
So anyway, after the lomg and tedious personal example my advice is this:
If you would feel bad about ripping off your mobile operator, call them and have them collect the second phone at their expense. If you wouldn't feel bad about it (and I wouldn't, in the case of at least three operators, given how much money I've paid over for sod all over the years), then don't say anything.
In both cases flog the phone if they haven't got back to you within a month- in my experience they won't come after you for it (but don't sue me if they do!).
Haha, cheers for the story - still have it and will try to call them again tomorrow as I have the day off, so should be easy to get thorugh. Then I can be shot of it...
If it's free to call them, O.K.
But it's their fault you've been mucked about. If you don't get through to them tomorrow, then chalk it up to a screw you, sit on the phone for a month, and then flog it.
As it happens, none of my operators have ever stiffed me, beyond allowing me to carry on paying £30 a month for a crap contract once my cashback had expired. Virgin, though, have made real attempts to screw my wife, and by extension me since I pay the bills, which took rudeness on the phone to sort out. So I'd stuff them without any guilt.
My 10MB broadband is great, as is my V+ box. But TBH the only real reason I'm with them is that I utterly despise Rupert Murdoch. They should make an effort to keep me sweet.
Woo Hoo... Just spent half an hour with CS returns. After I explained the whole thing (again) to the first chap he said he was going to chuck me on hold whilst he spoke to the courier dept... At which point I was chucked in another queue and got to speak to another representative. Anyway, explaining again finished, this chap actually did the clever thing and wrote some notes on the account (I cant belive this doesnt happen more often...) and then put me in a queue to returns, where I got to speak to a lady who finally has said to send out a pre-paid envelope for the return. So hopefully thats the end of that then![]()
Good to hear
I'd have sent it back, presumably the delivery company (if it was insured) wont have payed out because it was delivered so the phone company will be out of pocket and may contact you. If you sold it and they contacted you you would have to lie :-S at which point is it really worth it?
I would keep it until I heard from them or see what happens with billing etc.
Personally I would have called them to tell them.
I had a logitech mouse die on me within the warranty period. Called them up to get a replacement. About a week later nothing had arrived so I called again, to be told the mouse was on back order and I had to wait. Complained that why wasn't I informed at the time, so to make it up for me they sent out a top of the range MX-Revolution. Which arrive with a small amount of fuss. Went away on holiday and return two weeks later to find a Mx-1000 had been delivered. I deliberated over what to do but decided the right thing to do was to call up so I did. The CS rep told me "consider it an early xmas present from Logitech"
Both mice are still going strong.
In my experience, if you want to deal with a good Customer Service department speak to logitech, had to deal with them about 3 times and every single time they have been completely spot on.
