Anybody here work for apple or know anything about this?

My iphone has developed a crack on its backplate, between the volume buttons and the screen. It's the entire width of this area.

I went to my local apple shop today but it was closing, all they could do for me was make an appointment for friday. The advisor (or whatever they're called in the world of apple) said that they don't do backplate replacements but that they'd probably replace the phone for me.

Has anybody else had any experience with issues like this? I'm pretty sure they're not going to be able to do very much for me.

The cracking is reasonably common. Mine has one running from the corner of the 30pin connector bit up about 2cm, never been dropped etc it just seems to be the material they use & the stresses they're under.

Cn't quite understand what bit you mean though, the back of the phone or between the volume/screen which is a few mm gap?

The white iphones are the worst for cracks on the back. The black ones you dont see it as much.

However the type of crack you are mentioning I havnt really come across it to much.

Definately go into Apple and speak to one the their people and see what they say about it

Well I've got a black one

Been looking at replacement casings but they're all fake & will likely look crap, anyone know where to get real ones (unless they're £50 in which case I won't bother!)

    Right a little update.

Went to the apple shop yesterday. Apparently this is a "known but rare issue" and apple are replacing it under warranty. yay!

You can't buy new backplates for the 3Gs, apparently that is the "phone part" not just a housing like I had thought

Re: Anybody here work for apple or know anything about this?

The volume button dropped off of my 3gs, took it to the apple store and they gave me a new one. As it is something that they don't fix.

    @OP

I've had lots of cracks on my one, in fact have two iPhones as my missus has one.

Both been replaced with brand new ones by Apple.

you don't think its a bit bad that you've had to replace 100% of them?

Compare it with my rather old now glofish that went round vietnam in the bottom of a rucksack and still works fine, and it was dirt cheap too.....

Especially considering that you have to sell your first born to Satan to pay for one without network subsidies.
