Re: Dilema - HTC HD2 or Google Nexus?

as far as I know HD2 won't be receiving the win mobile 7 update, where as I should imagine the nexus one will be receiving long term support and updates from google. that said I'd be very surprised if xda-developers didn't shoe horn 7 on to the HD2.

I'm using a Dext atm, and am very happy with android so my choice would be to keep the nexus one, that or give it to me

Re: Dilema - HTC HD2 or Google Nexus?

Yeh unfortunately with the new requirements from Microsoft (the 3 hardware buttons) it means that the HD2 or any other WM device has no chance of WMP7 direct from Microsoft or the manufacter .

Although as you say, XDA will have it hacked in no time because that is the only restriction holding the HD2 away from WMP so they could just remap the keys and be done .

WM 6.5.5 is awesome though tbh, alot better than WM 6.5 and its more touch friendly.

Re: Dilema - HTC HD2 or Google Nexus?

if its as easy as getting WM 6.0 devices to 6.5 then everything will be fine, if its as difficult as getting android 1.5-1.6 devices to 2.0-2.1 i wouldn't count on xda devs to give something usable day-to-day

Re: Dilema - HTC HD2 or Google Nexus?

Or indeed getting Adnroid on a WM6 device. I can see it happening, but not working 100%.

I think there is special hardware required for WP7 devices, the hardware graphics scaler for example.

Re: Dilema - HTC HD2 or Google Nexus?

I would not get a Windows Phone right now, not with the release of the Windows 7 series this fall, and they require specific hardware requirements which no current Windows 6.5 phone has.

If you NEED a phone now, then out the two you suggested I'd opt for the Nexus One. You can get community ROMS as others have suggested, but also further updates from Google.

I have the Desire, which is similar (if not better than) the Nexus One. Stunning phone. Get rid of WinMo.

Re: Dilema - HTC HD2 or Google Nexus?

Having used the Nexus for a month (before loosing it while away in Spain) I'd have to say that from a functionality point of view - with the exception of a few niggling problems - the Nexus out performs the HD2 hands down. It's also a lot more fun and considerably more responsive.

I was supprised at how much the whole apps thing would swing it for me, but once again the Nexus wins.

The HD2 is solid, and I like it, but the Nexus is the better phone - although I didn't try watching movies on it.

I've yet to watch a movie on on my Nexus One but I watch TV series on it. My repackaged media files are great to watch but really do need headphones due to the relatively poor speaker. I used to sit at work and watch a 20ish minute episode during my lunch break as I ate. Really good clear playback even with subtitles. Just used the Gallery media player than download an app, so no playlist or what not but works a treat.
