Question iRinger - converter for customising iPhone ringtones. Any good ? Or something else ?

    As in the title.

We are new to iPhone. Plenty to learn and discover.
My first impression is that a simple task of customising a ringtone appears to be such a challenge.
Nearly as tricky as composing ringtones on mobile phones 10 years ago.

I have just started a search for "the tool" and came across a free application iRinger.
I wonder if anybody has used it and if it works and can be trusted ...
Or if you know of any other ways of performing the same task (i.e. pick up mp3 or iTunes AAC file, convert it, rename it and somehow upload it to iPhone without spending days and weeks doing it).

    Trim MP3
    Import to iTunes
    Convert to M4A in iTunes
    Move to Desktop/HDD etc
    Rename to M4R
    Delete version currently in iTunes
    Re-import to iTunes

    Takes minutes.

    Thanks.
I have seen this recipe somewhere already.
However if it is a matter of minutes then I will have a go ...

    re. triming mp3
Is there a certain file / tune length limit ?

    re: itunes
I read that different versions of iTunes may handle iPhone ringtones differently.
We are using the latest version of iTunes, 9-something ... (?)

Trim length... I think it is 40seconds.

Not sure regarding iTunes versions, I've not done it for a while but am using iTunes 9 & it works fine for my previously made ringtones.

If you're jailbroken you can also delete the pre-defined (and frankly rubbish) ringtones to free up a little space as well. Makes navigating the ringtone menu much quicker.

Thanks everybody ... I admit I got a bit demotivated when I heard that my wife actually likes that duck's quacks ringtone ... ;-)

    PS
I have tried both methods with the same mp3 file.
I managed to create two versions of m4r files.
The one generated by iRinger utility is restricted to 30s and gets correctly sync'd with iPhone.
The other one, with unrestricted length, does not get sync'd.
Of the two i prefer iRinger purely because it automates the process and gives additional options that are tricky to apply
while completeing the process purely manually.
I have also come across another utility, this time an iPhone application.
    I will try it too.
