Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Does anyone know the order of speed for teh various mobile internet connections? So far, I've had G, 3g, H, and perhaps a couple of others. What's what?

The Chamber Of commerce next to my office also has free, unsecured internet access, which they share. Get in!

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Fastest is H = HSDPA, next fastest is 3G, slowest is G = GPRS (2G)

I believe LTE is being tested. That's like 4G. I think it's also just starting up Stateside. I think in theory you can get speeds of 100mbps!

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

grrrr Desire in stock, sim and branding free in my local carphone warehouse - £409.99 with the compulsory £10 top up...

Hmm really sorely tempted but then again its alot of money on one phone...i know i know it does MP3 too, but to be honest my Zune HD rocks to much to switch to that...

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

I used to use my phone for music but its such a pain in the arse when you run out of battery i went out and bought an MP3 player seperately. I would say as a tool for entertainment a phone is a back up at best really, this is especially so with the desire as the battery life is pretty bad!
The best thing about the desire for me so far is web browsing and social features all merged into a fantastily intuitive UI with masses of customization. I havent quite got used to typing on the screen but im getting there.

According to HTC they have no plans to release it over here, it's CDMA only so it's only for US networks. It's basically a reboxed Desire from what i've seen - with a few bumps in performance. You get a bit more RAM, 8MP camera as opposed to 5MP. Otherwise it's virtually identical - enough not to notice the difference!

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

It's not that surprising though and it's what happens to you when someone else has a decent OS and lets people put it on lots of different devices when you force people into one thing (though it's not to Apple's detriment, iPhone OS is great).

However, experts have pointed out that there are more than 30 phones available in the United State that run Android, the open-source mobile operating system backed by Google and a consortium of partners in the Open Handset Alliance.
The iPhone has been doing staggeringly well to fight off competition for so long! And the 4G does look very nice...

    EDIT:

Oh yeah, baby (that's mine, in case it's not obvious)

Anyone got a good guide to rooting it? I want to get the Orange crapware off it!

This phone is amazing, it's so fast and the touch screen is so responsive, just need to wait for my next upgrade now!
