Im not agreeing anything as i havent got a HD2 to compare it with, im saying from your perspective i can understand it but for everyone who wont have the same experiences of facilities to make that comparison its pretty much pointless to make such a big deal out of it as there wont really be an issue.

im not being funny...but you're trying to fit a square peg in a round hole trying to surf websites with no zoom on a device of this size - thats the reason the tablet device is going to go mainstream this year - its the ONLY justifiable reason for running an iPad that I can think of.

The zoom and reallocation of text funtion of smart phones is done in a way which makes the internet workable on a small screen - loading an entire page and expecting to read it on a screen of this size (on the desire and most smart phones) is not what it was designed to do.

Case in point, if they were, the pinch and zoom functionality would even need to exist now would it?

This is a non-issue, the screen, interms of current market availability is one of the best available, period - if you chose to use it outside of the designed scope and function then there will aways be limitations but there is certainly no HUGELY flawed screen on my desire(s - theres two in my house now - yes the other half has been android'ed too!)

Well some sites work with no zoom, most don't - I do use zoom, I just prefer to use the least possible to get maximum information on a screen. E.g. On the HD I can display 50% of a web page on a screen at 50% zoom and the text is readable, but on the Desire I will need to use 80% zoom and only can see 30% of the web page.

Sorry if this obvious to you guys, but what is the advantage of a 800x480 screen over a 480x320 screen if you are going to zoom in so much? I am beginning to understand why the iphone is so popular!

Not a huge fan of the whole pinch thing, I like to double click or use the zoom slider in Opera (I haven't explored the browser alternatives of android yet, hopefully there is an slider app/browser)

Come on, at least one person has to agree with me or I am going to start calling you all fanboys
(I am hoping the former HD2 users will back me up!)

You did yes, but it went from "small text is less clear" to "The screen on the Nexus One/HTC Desire is HUGELY flawed". That's one hell of a difference.
The screen is a lower res than the HD, but that is not a flaw. It's a design issue. If the lower res doesn't suit you - fine, say that, not "HUGELY flawed". You're making this out like the Desire / N1 has some screen issue that makes it unusable. It doesn't.

Again, a design issue - not a flaw. As soon as you zoom in even slightly (or double tap), this "issue" isn't there.

Denial? Oh come on now. Every single person who has this phone has posted the same: This is not a problem with the desire. I have / had no issue with the screen res when I brought it - There is no denial about it. Honestly SiM, if I'm not happy with something, I'll blinking well say so. I am not trying to justify my purchase here at all.

You see, this is a entirely different thing now. You've gone from text blur to how much you can fit on the screen. A higher resolution is always going to be able to fit more on - period, no one is going to disagree with this.

if I double tap the desire screen it zooms in and resizes the page...Im sorry I don't see what your trying to do?

I'm not a fan boy of the desire, but complaining it doesn do something right when its really outside its scope is not really fair on the product, no?

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

    Why would we agree

Before i purchased a phone if i wanted the Bigger screen i wuold of purchased a phone with a bigger screen or even followed the hype and bought an ipad.

i wanted a fast phone with a quality screen on a fast platform, the Desire fit the bill in more than one way so I got that, simples....

I have been waiting months for a new phone and was going to wait what came on the market and tbh I am glad I didnt wait any longer as the Desire had everything i personally wanted.

OK, I agree I did exaggerate by calling it a huge flaw. It is advertised as a 800x480 screen, so I expect the clarity to be at the level of a 800x480 screen - and I am disappointed that it is not.

It is exactly the same issue. I want to fit maximum text on a screen without blur. The resolutions of the HD and the Desire are the same.

In this case, then I simply disagree with you. I see no blur at 50% zoom, and graphics is my living. At very low zoom levels, you might notice a slight unsharpness, but at 50%? not a chance. If you can fit a bit less on - ok, fair enough.

I think you're looking at this the wrong way personally: The HD is an exception to the rule with its high res, not the Desire having an issue.

I came from a HD2 to a Desire and can't notice the decrease of screen quality. I guess it's because I wasn't really looking for it...

Accept it. It's an issue for you, but not for 99% of other users. I'm afraid you can't tell us what is an issue to us. This is not.

    Knickers in a twist much?

Good grief - if you don't like it then simply don't get one. Odd thing is I found the HD2 blurry compared to the TD2 - and yet i'm happy with the desire. Go figure!

I'll repeat: not once have I ever thought the screen was anything but yum-yum-yummy. And that's coming from a device which had better pixel density than the HD2.

Agent, the 50% number was an example. Afaik, you can't see the % zoom number anywhere in mobile browsers (except in opera:config).

I agree that this is not a problem for most people, but I am surprised that no one else here finds this a problem.

That is my point, reasonable size = bigger zoom on the desire.

I have accepted it a long time ago
It is still an issue/"feature" of the device whether it means anything to you or the other 99% is irrelevant.

Let's skip this topic and move onto something else, I wanna only focus on the good points of the desire from now on since I am stuck with it

    - Anyone awaiting an order from O2? Ordered mine end of last week, they said it would come Tues / Wed. Rang yesterday afternoon, was told it could be friday / monday. Seeing a lot of seething people on the O2 Desire thread :

    http://forum.o2.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=240432#240432

    - Anyone just got theirs direct from O2?

    - Also anyone that did get one direct from O2, can you confirm that the phone itself is unlocked with some minimal O2 branding?
