Hey josh - any chance of some example pictures, or opinions of the camera please? Outdoors I'm sure it will be fine, but indoors in low-ish (ie. mood) lighting is something that I always use as a benchmark of a decent camera. Hows it fare?

The Micro-USB they use is actually a slightly modified version that you will find connecting to PS3 controllers, Cameras and many other things. I picked up a couple of standard mini-USB cables to use in the car or the computer for a couple of quid each.

As for the call - end button....That's a little bizarre, I know the Hero has it but hadn't realised that the Desire lacked it, have you tried the Home button or back button to end a call?

No, the ps3 controller and other similar devices uses "mini" usb to connect their devices. the htc desire now uses the "micro" usb as i heard it is now the standard for all devices now.

even apple's next iphone will use it apparently.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Anyone used mobiles.co.uk and/or their upgrade service before? It seems a bit too good to be true.

They're offering the Desire on Orange as an upgrade for free. This seems somewhat hard to believe since I know Orange would probably want to charge me a few hunderd pounds if I wanted to upgrade before the end of my contract.

It's even on a cheaper contract than what I have currently - since Phones4U would only let me have an overkill 1000 minute contract when I got the Hero.

A review of the camera here -

    http://www.fonehome.co.uk/2010/03/17...%80%93-camera/

I really like the idea of tapping on a certain part of the screen to adjust focus. Very intuitive.

I'm using mobiles.co.uk to get mine. Ordered Wednesday, I think. Hoping it will arrive on Tuesday. As to wheterh you can upgrade for free, that depends entirely on your talkplan, from what I can see. With Orange, if you pay around £25 - £30, you SHOULD get it for free, from some of the deals.

I've left orange early, jumped to Vodafone. Just for a giggle, really.

I've not had a despatch email as such yet from mobiles.co.uk. I've had two saying it's gone to warehouse READY for despatch, so am really, really keeping my fingers cross (as I'm without a phone until I get the desire).

    I'll let you know.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

I've already gone Orange -> O2 -> Orange in the past 2 years. Each time I've got the final few months of my contract paid off, but I can't imagine any company wanting to pay off 15 months of my contract and give me a free HTC Desire!

Well, I've submitted an order, so I'll see what happens. Carphone Warehouse says it's dependent on your contract for their upgrade deals, and apparently mobiles.co.uk is owned by them. Well, if I get a free Desire, yay, if not, a Hero is fine too.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

    I desperately want a desire.

    Looking at going T-Mob

    £164 initial cost ( - £35 quidco), + 10 a month for 24 months, (100 mins, 100 texts, 3GB Internet FUP, Flexible booster - i'd go unlimited landline)

Total cost £369, less than the sim-free cost.

Sadly Vodafone just quoted me a mighty £300 to end my Blackberry Storm contract halfway through

I've asked them to move down a plan which would reduce that to £250, and I could make around ~£100 selling my Storm - but I still cant really justify it

But I really want it! Gief!

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Carphone Warehouse/Phones4U are worth checking for good deals. Though if you're only at the halfway point you probably won't be able to get away with it too easily.

You'd think networks would offer some better upgrade deals considering how easy it is to jump networks these days. P4U have basically given me £250, a HTC Hero, and a random Sony phone, in the past 2 years to jump networks twice.

I could sell my Hero for ~£200 if I'm lucky but considering I'm 3 months into an £18 month contract... I can't see that working out well.

Will trade right arm for HTC Desire.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

My friend upgraded her phone to the Desire today on T-Mobile. I gotta say, the thing is brilliant. I loved it. Trouble is I can't get one now she has it. I like being different.

18 mo contract, 900mins, unlimited texts, unlimited Internets, £35/mo, £60 for phone up front.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Well, I have been using mine since Thursday and I have to say I love this thing. Its quick, damn quick and that screen is as bright as the sun. I thought my hero was bright but sitting it next to the desire there is no comparison.

The camera is drastically improved, the shutter speed is much better and the LED flash makes an enormous difference in pubs and clubs and again it kicks the hero well into the middle of next week on that score. I can't get over the screen though, it really is the most amazing screen I have seen on any device and the sheer size has improved my texting quite a bit. Should say something on web browsing as well actually, because even over 3G this thing seems lightning fast, seems it wasn't connection speed that slowed things down on my hero, get this thing on wireless and web browsing speed is comparable to a laptop.

    My verdict :

    Get one.
