I would also check for unlock codes on ebay. I purchased a blackberry one from a guy with very high feedback for 99p

If he treats half of his customers fine, or should I say, half have no problems so no need for his help, that's quite a lot of people the same as you, that think the service is okay. I'm just saying, if it was me, I wouldn't want to take that kind of risk and would be grateful of someone pointing out how bad many of his customers got it.

Paul over at Modaco even removed his link from the forums (he was stickied across all forums) when he found out how bad this guy is.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

There have been benchmarks shown all over the web of how much faster FroYo is, you only believe it now? If you run Linpack (which I think is more specifically testing the CPU speed) it comes up 5 to 6 times faster than 2.1

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

It's good to see performance increases for free but again though I don't see any real world 'double performance' examples (to be fair I've not looked that hard)
    Do games play 'faster' ?
Does the browser render 'faster' ?

They're not exactly slow devices anyway so the difference might not be huge and although I'm certainly going to upgrade I don't seem to see why there is such a buzz about 2.2? Am I missing some killer new feature or some review where the whole user experience is said to be so much better than 2.1?

Yes and yes. It is faster. Why are people struggling with this concept?

I have seen some "real-world" difference. Menus load alot quicker, best example I can give is the Applications menu in Settings. Used to hang on 2.1, it is instant on 2.2.

Most of the games I aren't hardware intensive anyway, hard for me to comment tbh.

    Haven't noticed it.

You can find the platform highlights of 2.2 here.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Not struggling, just can't believe it is "2x, 4x, 20x faster" - ok maybe not 'believe' but I'm not sure what real world usage benefits it'll bring. Benchmarks often compare poorly to what users actually get (in all areas of tech)

My browser opens instantly anyway, rendering is pretty damn fast, I doubt I could tell if it was Xtimes as fast as my brain wouldn't tell the difference between say 5ms & 10ms :/

    I prepare to be amazed...

The much talked about number of 450% increase refers mostly the Android JIT thingy.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Yeah, of course you're right. Even if the CPU can process things 5 times faster due to the new JIT compiler it uses, your not going to notice it a great deal in real world. On my SGS it does take a couple of seconds for some apps to open, with 2.2 on my N1, they open instantly.
