Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread
Can anyone recommend a good case for the Desire? My flat-mate has got a hard case for his iPhone which is nice as is it doesn't obscure any buttons or the camera, something like that would be nice.
Also is it worth buying a screen protector and if so what do you recommend? I've seen the SP P360 from HTC itself but can't seem to find many more made for the Desire.
Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread
Well, mine bricked itself yesterday!!!!
It was on my desk, I looked down and it was off. Strange I thought so I tried to power it on... no job. Removed battery, popped it back on, powered on for 3 seconds and then off. Didn't power on again after that!
So, back to carphone for a replacement handset it is. Got to say, I am really glad I took the time to sort my google contacts out and have it sync properly because when i switched it on with my sim in and banged my gmail info in it grabbed my contacts seamlessly, all in their proper folders (so all my friends came up in the friend widget) all of the links to facebook etc were preserved and it all came back smashing.
Only trouble is I have lost some application data (my tagged songs in shazam, my sports tracker info and probably some other stuff I haven't thought about yet).

hah, and on that subject..
I updated my facebook status yesterday as to the situation with my new brick and ended up with this comment fight with one of my iphoneboi mates. Check it out :

iPhones never brick ;)

But predictive txt sux... iPhone

Whaling, what you on about man?
Saying iphone predictive sucks? I didn't think it was too bad on my touch but tbh since using android id never get an iphone at all. the desires screen makes it much much nicer than the hero which was already pretty good imo.
Just got my replacement desire, now to make it work like I want all over again.. *sigh*
My Mate
U was saying "iPhones never brick" but it's hard to drive down the felling bypass at 70 and accurately type on facebook ;)
Desire has a way to go before it can claim to have knocked the iPhone off top spot. I used a hero for a while and found it appauling. Nowhere near As good as a 3gs. Desire looks nice but I've heard many with issues so far... We'll see
Me
pah, you talk rubbish mate. It ****es all over the iphone. Better camera, better video, better web browser, tighter integration with facebook and google services, faster cpu and more ram, bigger higher res screen. I could go on but basically its better. :p
My Mate
Camera is not an issue, and the rest is slander...
Me
its all true, should I also mention lack of flash support on iphone, lack of multitasking and lack of LED flash. the camera is an issue for me, I like having a half decent camera on my phone because I always have my phone on me whereas I don't always have a camera on me.
you lose mate. :p
Me
oh yeah, and its cheaper!!!
bwahahhahaah
My Mate
I use a big camera. iPhone cam does what I need it to :)
Multitasking and folders, etc are all out with OS4 in a month or 2. iPhone 4 will also leap back ahead of Desire so I wouldn't laugh too long :)
Me
ive seen the specs for the 4G and not impressed with what I see. it might maybe possibly equal a desire for spec, but id still find the OS to be rubbish compared to android.
FyI : http://gizmodo.com/5520164/this-is-apples-next-iphone
My Mate
Horses for courses....
So in the end, he couldn't find anything specifically better on iphone so its just better because he likes it better. Fair enough but its still rubbish :)

I must be the only iphone 2g user that hates the handset and really detests the locked down nature of EVERYTHING to do with the jesus phone.
I seriously miss my N95 and may even get it back from the missus at the end of the month, or I might add a 1/2 decent mobile to my virginmedia account and get a new handset.
Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread
I spilt coffee over my desire yesterday, and it's OK.
It's fine people, panic not.
Um... I was going to say something though...
Oh, yeah: when Android updates to a new version, will we be able to update, or do you have to get a new handset?
My recent status update on FB: "Shooty* laughs at your iphone. Heh."
Led to a long discussion about the desire, but one good comment "I have an iPhone??!? Cool. Do you know where i left it?"

Cheers bud. I ended up buying it from the Carphone Warehouse because I was desperate to get my hands on one. Glad that o2 are planning to release it in case I need instore support =P
Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread
I got my Desire from Vodafone last Saturday and it's top notch. Now that I've got all my gadgets, widgets and other-things-ending-in-'gets' on there, the battery is lasting 2 days, and I expect this to increase as the battery gets conditioned. I bought an official (there's a little tag on it) HTC leather-ish case from Amazon for £7.10 inc del, which protects, and sort of cleans the screen of fingerprints when you put it in.
More good news to rub iPhone users noses in - Google have released free turn-by-turn Sat Nav for Android. If you update your google maps now, it should be installed...
Oh and to whoever asked - Yes it does sync your Outlook address book. Although I haven't found a way to sync my Windows Live mail ones. If anyone's found a way to do that, please let me know...
Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread
Smudge - have you got a link to the case please mate as I'm looking for one.
Cheers

Here you go:

Looks like the price has gone up by a pound or so. They do them at Mobilefun as well...

I thought that was just for the USA, or have they released it for the UK as well now?

It's the UK too.
Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread
Anyone know of any good android forums/websites that give a run through of things like the apps available?
