Not with Sense I haven't, but I know K-9 can work separately to the normal Android app, so I'd imagine it will work separately to Sense too.

HTC's don't come with Google's own Mail app, but you can easily install it if you get the APK (a search on XDA will reveal all).

I've got it installed and connected to my works Exchange server and all is well. I did try moving to it completely from the HTC app, but then it doesn't integrate with HTC's People contact app. You cannot install the Google contacts app without at least rooting your device, and if I go that route, I may as well just flash a new ROM on there.

Getting very tempted to do just that. The Google mail app has much better handling of HTML emails and you get more usable screen reel estate for them (means you can real Cheezeburger Network emails much easier on your phone).

This will keep me going for the time being, I'll look into custom ROM's for when I get home and am not dependant on my phone.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Well, I'm a little behind the times, but this weekend finally managed to get round to installing my first custom ROM, along with data2sd. Main reason for this was because of the fact that I was pretty much always out of memory, so after researching about a bit, and using this excellent and concise guide, I managed to get it all sorted.

Went to Leedroid 2.4 in the end, initially tried 2.5 (which oddly is the release on XDA, but not on the minisite) and everything seemed to be fine, except the fact that any page that used flash would crash. Flashing 2.4 seemed to be fix this, and I'm happy with it now.

Having data2sd is a godsend, even on my rubbish slow (probably class 4) sd card. Not really one for phone benches, but just as a relative comparison, went from about 1000 to 2100 in quadrant, which is probably down to the leedroid OC (I think it scales the CPU up to 1200mHz) and the increased IO performance.

Waiting to see how this all affects my battery life, but in the mean time, I'm wasting time looking at themes and mods to flash. I've been using Ultimate Online Theme Kitchen to try and change a few bits and pieces from the stock Leedroid ROM, and thats working well, now that I have got to grip with the flashing procedure.

Big thanks to Dangel who gave some good tips over PM. Cheers chap

    JP

PS. Has anyone changed their status bar icons? I did, but its affected the way that the icons in the drop down drawer are displayed, so I had to revert.

    Your link doesn't work mate.

Can you have another crack because I am tempted to do the same... Already done a san fransisco so shouldn't be too much trouble but worth having a guide to follow anyway.

Who's link? Mine? If so then they should both work, just tested them now. If not, then well, I'll be going

@G4Z - yep, it links back to a post by Dangel, and thats the guide I followed. Just to add, that I went and dowloaded the GParted Live CD, which you can boot off, and then used that to partition the SD card. Not that you MUST have the FAT32 partition first on the card, followed by the EXT4 one, otherwise windows doesnt 'see' the correct partition

Really happy with it at the moment, the extra space is fantastic, as is being able to mount the SD card as USB without messing up some of the apps. Havent been able to properly guage the battery life, as I've been using/wasting loads of time reading up on customising the phone.

I've been using Launcher Pro, along with a number of different widgets to try and make a more minimal looking phone, whilst still being usable. Pics to follow (not that anyone cares!!!)

So I'm back on Oxygen v2.1.4, and already missing Sense. I don't want to go back to LeeDroid as I find that too much stuff is added to it. I much prefer a cleaner base like Oxygen, but I want Sense. Any one knows of a almost stock clean Sense based ROM?
