Considering buying new phone, advice/opinions sought

I'm looking to upgrade my phone from a Samsung d900i to something a bit more modern.

Thinking either an Android Handset or an iPhone (I have an iPod and Macs already and am happy with iTunes...).

iPhone is easy to look at, one platform only a few models etc.

Android on the other hand, not sure where to start. What sort of prices should I expect them to go for, which is best?

I'll likely be using it on O2 PAYG (£15/m unlimited texts/internet).

If you are planning to get an iphone then wait a little while for the new one which should be coming out in June/July. You tend to pay through the nose for one, so you might as well get the latest one when it comes out.

I would personally go for Android as they are cheaper to get. Generally I find HTC make the best android mobiles. You can get the HTC Legend free for about £20 month on Vodafone. If you are looking to spend a bit more then you can get the HTC Desire free on £30 a month, both phones imo are as good or if not better then the iphone.

Have a look at reviews, there are so many phones out there.

Re: Considering buying new phone, advice/opinions sought

My trouble is that I wont be able to get one free on contract due to my credit rating being too poor. So would have to buy the phone and use it on PAYG I'd suspect.

I just recently got my new HTC Desire. And what a phone it is. Sexy 3.7" AMOLED screen 480x800, 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, Android 2.1.
It apparently fixes all the issues the Legend had. And it's meant to be a smidgen better than the Nexus One. And better than the iPhone? Quite possibly.

I got mine, FREE, as an upgrade on Vodafone for £30p/m.
600 minutes, 3000 texts and 500MB internet per month.

Loads of peeps at work came and had an oggle. They were all "ooo" and "wow". And these were iPhone folk.

I'm very happily running a Nokia E71 on PAYG.
    great battery life
    all the features I want...
looks better than the previous brick, that everyone took the mick out of...
now the E72 is out would expect the price to start dropping

what features are you looking for?

Hi, I was thinking of getting the Legend, what issues were there with it? Would these have been ironed out with an update?

Re: Considering buying new phone, advice/opinions sought

The legend and Desire are awesome phones. I have the Hero myself and am still in love with it! I am a keen supporter of Android, and I honestly think there are many better handsets than the iPhone.

The only problem is that if you plan on using HTC Sync (which I haven't used other than to upgrade the firmware) then this does not work with Mac, only with PC.
