I've dropped my iphone 2g more than a fair few times onto concrete, carpets, laminated flooring you name it. It even fell downstairs the other day.
nothing broken so far... well apart from a few lines of dead pixels on the screen and a quiet speaker in the earpiece.
The N95 I gave to the missus has been through the wars. dropped all the time from my shirt pockets and after sessions out clubbing. I'm sure it was dropped down the stairs at gatecrasher as well and it's working fine now I replaced the LCD with one from ebay for 9.99![]()
After spending a boat load with Orange over the years, when my HTC P3600 was lost/stolen (very heavy night on the town, still don't know what happened to that thing!!) the guys at the local shop gave me one of these gratis whilst I had to wait for the insurance peoples to send me a replacement phone (which at that point I didn't have... whole different story!). When I got my phone back they didn't want the handset back.
Got to say, am loving this little phone. I've had a couple high end smartphones since then, but any-time I'm out doing reckless things I bring this along, haven't managed to kill it yet, it's a great phone!
my iphone has been hit and dropped loads of times and still works fine
My Blackberry Storm gets dropped, stepped on, wet and still isnt showing any ill effects. Even the clickable touchscreen is showing no effects of dust or sand.
Although not as hard as my Nokia 5500 Sport! I keep one for my emergency backup phone, which is completely waterproof and will resist being thrown against the wall. I've tested it! So I guess mine is equally hard as the OP's as its the same phone!
I noticed the other day they actually go for quite alot on Fleabay, so I was tempted to cash in. It is nice to have the option of an indestructible phone when you are doing skiing or something though![]()
HTC put the Nexus One through some pretty good testing -

HAHAHHAHAHAH, this has got to be the funniest thread LOL. Remember back in the day the Nokia 3310's? Those were indestructable. You would drop them, the case would fly open, the battery would fly off, and everything will still work fine even after you repeat that process 100 times hahah.
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz, 2 GB DDR2, 500GB SATA-II 7200RPM, nVidia GeForce 9800GT 512mb, BenQ E2200 HD, BenQ G2412HD, Logitech S510 Wireless set, Creative GigaWorks T3 Speakers.
I remember watching a girl in Tesco drop her 3310... it went into about 5 different pieces, back case, front case, battery, keypad, all strewn across the floor. She tutted, said "2nd time today", picked it up, pieced it back together and turned it on again
I dropped my 3330 (same phone but with WAP) down the stairs at my dad's house, bounced all the way down and then smacked straight into the wall at the bottom - didn't even turn off![]()
First phone I bought for myself (as opposed to borrowed from parents) was a Siemens M35i. Despite being rugged, it's the only phone I ever killed (though maybe it's just the battery life that gradually got worse). It survived a number of drops, but one day (2-3 years?) it just stopped switching on.
Thereafter I went with Sony Ericsson, and each and everyone of them still work to this day (and probably have been dropped at one point). Well, the keypad on the P800 is a bit dodgy due to one bit of plastic snapping, and the W880i's directional pad's paint is all scrapped, but they still work.
The W800 is just a plain awesome phone (my W880 seem to have a weird auto-shutdown issue). As for my 2G iPhone, it may well be the only phone I've yet to drop (won't be 'trying' anything either). Good to hear Lee's experience though![]()
I DROPPED MY HTC DESIRE TWICE, second time last weekend on the road and teh battery etc all came off! im lucky no one ran over it LOL. only has a slight mark but still working!
i'd say the htc desire is robust enough but im going to buy the htc case for it.
reminds me of when I left my old Ericsson T28 Worldon the dash of my friends car. we went round a roundabout a bit fast and in what seemed like in slow motion it slide across the dash and out of the open window!
I finally managed to rescue it from the middle of the road, just before a lorry ran over it (really wasn't thinking clearly when I did that, was all a bit stupid running out in front of and articulated lorry) and low an behold it was still working! bit scratched up but none worse for the experience.
Hardest phone I ever had was the Motorola 8700 International
Survived may a knock and a couple of dunkings awesome phone in its day (1994!)
Woo and I had a green suede case for it, and it was one of the first phones with VibraCall![]()
My toughest phone probably was the sony ericson 850i, wasnt too bad and it survived going down 30 steps every week (i was clumsy after a month of having it), hit concrete outside often and my sister was pissed off at me at some point and threw it at me, it missed me and hit the solid wall! Worked fine still, however i dropped it in some acid during chemistry AS and unfortunately it didnt work afterwards.
My next phone was the LG renoir, survived almost as much still is working today even after falling down stairs hitting concrete and the best one.... dropped it in the sea while kayaking, i died a little inside but jumped off after it, managed to find it (thank god it was mostly plastic, didnt sink to fast) Took battery out and everything, washed it with some bottled water and shoved it in a dry bag. next day it was working fine and now it got me £70 towards my new phone contract this year.
My HD2 on the otherhand, that wont be going anywhere near liquids and is kept in protective casing.
HTC G1 - most brittle phone ever.. although it still works after numerous drops, it looks like it's been through a war
