So.. someone dropped an iPhone 3GS off last night

...to ask me to unlock it - any ideas on how to do this gratis?

As a side-note - the wife and I spent quite a while playing with the iPhone and comparing it to our Touch Diamond 2's (with 6.5.x custom ROMS/manilla) and came to the conclusion the iPhone just isn't as good. The screen's comparatively low res, the home screen is just app shortcuts and nothing else and it feels quite 'limiting' in the one-thing-at-once sense (OS4 come on down). It's also bloody heavy and bloody big by comparison - a big no-no for the wife's handbag apparently. And what's up with the short charging cable? One handed use is much harder too - partly to physical size and (when web browsing) the insistent use of pinch to zoom in/out (how do you zoom out without using two fingers?).

I still like the slick transitions from app to app but this get's tired relatively quickly. In fact, overall, i'm surprised how far my WM experience has travelled since I first spent time with an iPhone on launch (and marvelled at it). I can see why they need a new phone out this summer. How things change..

The app shortcuts are partly the reason they're liked (well, by me & I assume many others) simplicity
I was 'in the business' for many years & am into tech/gadgets etc but sometimes I just want something easy to use, I see WM/Android as 'harder' somehow although have never used the newer versions (or Android at all) so no idea where I get that impression from!

As for screen res I don't know what I'm missing so shush or I'll end up buying a new phone! And as for pinching to zoom, if you've used one for a while you get to know the tricks, I've not exactly got big hands but can pinch one handed using thumb & forefinger

I got fed up of WM after 6 & although would love to have a play with Android/WM6+ I just 'can't be bothered' I really do need to play with a HTC Desire!

A bog standard WM6 or android phone is definitely much "harder" as you put it - no argument there they are both horrible as a mobile phone interface.

With the addition of HTC Sense though they become a joy to use..you have your app shortcuts etc but also so much more on your home screen (call history, appointments, weather for example as well as your notifications) - and somehow it doesn't seem complex or crowded.

Bring on OS4.0 though to add in at least some of these features..

I actually quite like the standard Android interface (as experienced on my HTC magic). You can stick all the app shortcuts you want on your homepage (well, up to 16), then you just swipe the screen to one side and presto - another 16 widget spaces! Swipe again - another 16! So if you just wanted app shortcuts on your home page, you could actually have 48 apps within a maximum of 2 gestures.

But even without that, all your shortcuts are just a couple of thumb swipes away on the roll-up menu anyway. I'm not sure how that qualifies as "harder"?

Depending on what firmware & baseband the iphone is on it may not be possible to jailbreak & unlock it.

This guide seems to suggest you can Jailbreak the 3.1.3 firmware ( Windows ).
