    So i lost my phone...

    Last week i lost my phone whilst out for my lunch, i wasnt too bothered by this as i have insurance and my contacts all backed up via google.

    I called O2Insure and seeing as they no longer stock the touch pro, the replacements they offered me where:
    - XDA Guide (windows mobile with no keypad... i think not)
    - Blackberry Bold (Solid handset but no touchscreen)
    - Nokia N97 (Symbian OS... blerrgghhhhhhh)
    - Palm Pre (meh)

    So i went with the Pre. Im not particualy thrilled with this decision i have to say and will most likely be selling it on either the for sale part of this forum, a mate or if all else fails il sell it on ebay.

    So before i stick it up for sale i was wondering if anyone would be interested and if so how much do you think i can ask for it?

    Im thinking of going for the Desire as a replacement, not totally decided though i may change my mind. I definately want a good CPU (snapdragon for example) but it would be nice to keep a keypad. Androids on screen keypad is pretty decent though and i thin i can just about manage it. Any suggestions?

    ah ok, suppose that makes sense with theft and such. Can still get an estimate of how much i should be expecting for it though?

    HTC Touch Pro. I was going to change/upgrade it soon anyway and it had taken a bit of a beating.

    Re: So i lost my phone...

    after working out the sums its actually cheaper for me to ditch o2 and move to a new contract rather than outright buying a new handset.

    Went for the Desire on 3 @ £25 a month. I think il get my insurance through a third party company this time though as its an extra £9 from 3

    Has anyone had any experience with independent mobile phone insurers?

    Does house insurance not cover it? £9 for a phone? Wow. Full house insurance is £30 a month...

    Re: So i lost my phone...

    Our renters insurance is £100 a year! It does cover it but it has some really strange restrictions that are quite criptic but basically say they will not offer an upgrade under any circumstances, or allow you to upgrade by paying the difference. Problem with this is the phones i tend to get (HTC) are not usually in production for particualy long so i dont know what would happen there.

    It raises the premiums, which isnt the case with getting seperate insurance plus other insurance companies tend to offer 'next working day replacement' type things which can definately not be said for home insurance.

    Re: So i lost my phone...

    So after using the desire for a day im over the moon with it, the handset is totally fanstastic!

    The Three price plan i got with it however, is a bit of a con!

    HTC Desire Graphite
    With the Internet Texter 300 you get:

    * 300 minutes (anytime, any network)
    * Unlimited texts
    * Unlimited internet*

    * Unlimited 3-to-3 minutes
    * Voicemail
    * Picture Mails

    * £2 Monthly Discount

    * 2 months Free Spotify

    * Free PAYG SIM for a friend

    * Free Skype™-to-Skype calls

    * Free Windows Live™ Messenger chats

    * Free Twitter

    *Fair Use Policy applies

    Fair usage policy seems to be pretty standards throughout all mobile operators and i figured it would be about 1GB or so before they sent me a warning telling me to back off. With it being a new phone i went a bit crazy with the apps and stuff like that, only to discover the inclusive 'fair usage' is only 500MB before i start getting charged an extra £2 for every MB! I havent hit the 500MB market yet as you get a warning at 400MB so im ok for now.

    Im utterly amazed that they can class 500MB as fair usage when other carries seem to run on a standard of 1GB or so, even more so is how they can advertise it as a fair usage policy when infact it is actually a free unlimited internet limit. It all seems like a complete contradiction tyo the other things stated in the policy about spotify and skype, how can these be free if the data allowance is so strictly monitored and harshly priced?

    Fortunately i have discovered this within my 14 day testing period so im sorely tempted to cancel the contract and send back the phone to see how much O2 can do the desire to me for when it arrives during this week. They have told me that i can get a bolt on which allows me 2GB of actual fair usage whereby if im too excessive i get charged 10p for MB which is a lot more fair... im really not sure if its worth it though.

    Back to the drawing board!

    Re: So i lost my phone...

    I heard on a podcast that they can say unlimited if it's enough for 90% (or maybe 95% of users). To be fair, in the last year on Android, only once have I gone over 500meg. Unless you're streaming a lot of video, 500 is plenty (assuming you user WiFi when at home)

    Also, I think most providers is 500meg, I know Orange is. The free Spotify and Skype would be kinda cool though.

    Re: So i lost my phone...

    I'd be tempted to return it within your 14 day cooling off period and head over to Vodafone - I absolutely annihilated my data usage Fair Policy a couple of months in a row and I didn't get charged, nor did they phone me about it.

    Vodafone's FUP is 500mb, but I was averaging 1 - 1.5gb a month for a few months and they had no problems. (I was working away from home, tethering my laptop for internet).

    Well that is interesting, as they haven't notified me of any planned changes to my contract....

    ...was that June this year? or June last year?

    This is this year.

    There is a previous article on that site, so far the only steps Vodaphone have taken to notify their customers is a post on their forums.

    im thinking i stick as close as i can to the contract im payin with O2 atm then just shell out however much extra they ask for the handset... assuming its not close to buying the handset outright.
    I get the added bonus of keeping my cheaper internetz with them aswell.
