My girlfriend just got a Sony Ericsson X10

....And I have a HTC Hero... I'm jealous, but should I be? After playing with the phone for less than 5 minutes I have the following pros / cons:

    Pros:

    - Lovely big screen,
    - Seemingly Speedy interface (but she has yet to clog it full of apps!)
    - Good camera with adequate flash,
    - Timescape/Media Scape work quite well,
    - Feels fairly well made.
    - Snapdragon processor makes for a better gaming experience on new
games such as Asphalt / Raging Thunder 2 etc.
    - Android 1.6 = Google Goggles / Gesture Search / Improved Market

    Cons:

    - No Multi-touch means typing is not as slick as on my Hero,
    - No Trackpad/Ball/Sensor is actually quite frustrating! I hadn't appreciated how much I use it,
    - The predictive text does not seem to be as capable as on HTC's Sense UI,
    - It's not a normal mini-USB connection, yet another fecking cable to have lying around!
    - Sense UI is actually much better and still retains some little things from the core android
experience that the x10 on first glances seems to be too "covered" by the SE rom.
    - Not actually much user customisation available when you compare to Sense UI
    - You have to manually turn on/off the camera light, what the hell is that about?!
    - The interface does not make the most of the high-res screen with the desktop icon / widget
spacing being far too big in my opinion, means you only have 3 screens that you can't put a
    huge amount on....

Other than that, she's happy, i'm fairly jealous, although glad she didn't get the HTC Desire

Sister recently got the White X10 on Orange. It's not as easy to use as an iPhone, but, IMHO it looks better - iPhones are so common now.

Agreed, much nicer than the iPhone, but then many phones such as the Legend, Desire etc. are anyway...

Yeah, the folks in the office who are getting the new HTC Desire and other new mobiles with these connections are using the Following Cable to charge them.

HTC doesn't technically have mini-USB, it has "EXTUSB". mini-USB cables will fit, though.

Re: My girlfriend just got a Sony Ericsson X10

I have pretty much ignored the EXT-USB standard, it means nothing as Mini-USB fits!

Anyway, added a couple more pros / cons as I have had more chance to play!

Re: My girlfriend just got a Sony Ericsson X10

I've just got one and love it (Would have got a desire but no stock in Salisbury I could find). Might end up returning it though as was told it was Andriod 2 in the shop when it isn't (Should have checked review first but phone looked so much better than my N96 and the large screen is delightful to use I made a snap decision to sign a new contract).

    Laptop : Dell Inspiron 1545 with Ryzen 5500u, 16gb and 256 NVMe, Windows 11.

Re: My girlfriend just got a Sony Ericsson X10

I looked at the X10 for a while, but a few things made me go with the desire.
Firstly, the desire has a MUCH better build quality. The demo model of the X10 was already doing the SE creaking when squeezing the plastic.
Secondly, having experienced SE's firmware updates...well, they are rather shocking.
    Thirdly, it's running Android 1.6
Fourthly, SE are looking at for 4th quarter of this year for any 2.1 upgrade (at which point 2.2 should be out). And as above, those who have been with SE before will know about SE's famous firmware delays.
Fifthly, the screen looks aged compared to the Desires AMOLED screen. It's not bad, don't get me wrong, there is just better out now.
    Sixth, no multi-touch still?
Seventh - the interface SE used was slow on the phone I tested. Really noticeable in places.

A few more, but I don't want to sound like I'm going out of my way to bash the phone *cough*.

Having owned an X1, one of their first Smartphones on a different OS, I know for certain I won't be getting one

Had to have 4 repairs in 18 months, and it's cracked again from heat, not been abused and the screen is still in good condition, just poor build quality and cheap materials

So how much Discount does a "veteran" Hexus user get? I seriously want a Desire but am being cautious, and No, Free Delivery does not count as a discount!

You and me both. My X1 cracked and had to go back to SE for repair far too many times. Didn't HTC build the X1 for SE?

The X10 has a nice display for sure but the OS lets it down. The friend flow interface lagged a touch and that put the nail in it for me. I got a Desire instead.
