International data roaming, on the cheap

Going to Florida next year. Would like to be able to use data on my phone - e.g. there are handy apps for Android which update you on queue lengths at all the theme parks.

Data rates in the USA are *CRAZY*. I'm on Orange, and I can pay £6 per meg ad-hoc, or get some "super discounted" bundles in advance like the cheapy £135 bundle for 200 meg. 3 figures is too many figures.

What's the cheapest way to use my quad-band GSM phone for data in yankland? Looks like *maybe* AT&T could be the ticket, via a PAYG phone and SIM transplant

Why don't you get pre-pay sim cards? They have pre-pay 3G sim cards at most U.S. carriers (i think?)
    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz, 2 GB DDR2, 500GB SATA-II 7200RPM, nVidia GeForce 9800GT 512mb, BenQ E2200 HD, BenQ G2412HD, Logitech S510 Wireless set, Creative GigaWorks T3 Speakers.

Some carriers. Many US carriers are CDMA, not GSM - and SIM cards are a GSM feature
