    Unlocked Smart Phone

Since it's starting to show it's age I'm thinking about upgrading my phone, however the deal I'm on at the moment is still perfectly fine so I'm just looking for a handset that is unlocked and can run on O2. At the moment the Google G1 looks tempting, it may be old but I can't afford the Nexus unlocked and it appears to offer everything I need just fine. However I am open for other suggestions. The one thing that bugs me about the G1 is the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack, instead you have to use a dongle and in my experience they tend to break easily, which is always a pain. Also I've read that the camera isn't meant to be that good, and while it isn't essential it would be nice to have something that can take decent pictures if the need arises.

If anyone here has one or had one can you speak for it's performance? Additionally are there any alternatives that I should consider? I have around £200-£300 to spend so obviously I won't be able to afford any of the brand new ones.

If you are on O2 you can call them and get a Desire for £280 if you have a contract, unlocked and no contract commitment

Why not sell your phone to help pay for a new one?

I currently on a pay as you go deal, which has been fine since I mainly use my phone for texting and it offers free texts when I top-up. As I plan to use the wi-fi for net access the deal would still be more then adequate for me.

That is the other thing, I assume you can just place a standard pay and go simcard in one of these phones, they don't need a special one do they?

    update
I just checked and I get unlimited internet on it too, which is useful.

Your choice of Symbian, WinMo, Android, Blackberry, on that budget. Including big-name ones like Nokia X6, Blackberry Curve 8900 or HTC Hero.

A few quid more means things like Blackberry Bold 9000, Nokia N97 Mini, or Samsung Galaxy.

I'd be thinking HTC Hero if I where you.

    Re: Unlocked Smart Phone

Yeah, it does seem to be the best deal.

Also is the HTC Wildfire worth considering or does the lower resolution screen ruin it?

    Update
My current phone crapped out again today, so I may just go get the Hero. One thing though, are the Ebay sellers to be trusted? It's just that there are a few Legends on there within my budget, and from what I have read that is a most excellent phone.
