    Re: iphone 4 signal problems?

The emails from Jobs have been found to be fakes no? According to Giz (I think) anyway. If real then I do't find it funny for someone in that position to be brushing off something like this.

This is a shoddy design, that's why it's getting stick for it. I was fed up of the anti-Apple sentiment on these (& other) boards in the run up to release but I seriously don't understand anyoe who defends Apple regarding this issue, you should not have to buy/use a rubber band/case on your new £600 phone because of a major design flaw, regardless of how easy it is to do it shouldn't need to be done.

I'm glad you added 'arguably' to your last sentence, plenty of folk would disagree (although personally not me on the screen front as it really is gorgeous)

Aside from Apple fanboys, I don't think people buy iPhones because the next person has. They just buy them because they think they are the best phones (Apple's clever advertising leads them to this conclusion). It's the job of Google and HTC to convince Joe Public that they're phones are better.

Out of interest, is there a phone on the market that is better? I'm genuinely interested as I did quite a lot of research before parting with my money, but battery life killed it for me on the Android phones. I still have 30 days to return the iPhone4 before Tesco's 12 month contract kicks in.

    Better? Totally subjective.

I was choosing between an iPhone 4 & a Desire, £633 vs £414 (52% more expensive) + double the minutes on the Desire = clear winner for me in terms of value.

If value isn't an issue then I'd have gone with the iPhone if it hadn't had these problems...

Oh yeah, probably should have given criteria:
-Decent Apps (couldn't decide between whether android or apple has this - think right now it's Apple, but very restrictive for developers, so maybe android in future)
-Screen (Some of the HTC screens are pretty good, so don't think improved iPhone4 screen would have been a deciding factor for me)
-Speed (Think the android ones can be faster, couldn't find a comparison until I read Anand's article after I'd made my decision)
-Reception (this is contraversal, but I'd made my decision it was before all these "issues" came up - I'm actually still not having any issues with this, sorry, and not using a case yet either)
-Camera (although I'm an SLR junky, I wanted something that could take the occasional snap when I wasn't lugging my real camera along)
-Battery life (this is high on the list for me, which is why I swung to apple in the end)

Price not really an issue - so long as it's not ridiculous.

There are lots of different fake one but the following is definitely true:

Steve Jobs: "Non issue. Just avoiding holding it in that way".

Oh, and the Apple press announcement telling people don't hold it "that way" (i.e. the normal way to hold a phone).

And the latest Apple press announcement diverting the design flaw to a reception "display" issue:
    http://channel.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=25340

So seriously...not sure why anyone who is a iPhone 4 customer with such problems would seriously stick with Apple unless they really don't have a brain (and there are some people like that...yes I couldn't believe it myself).

Apple is a product manufacturer just like any other manufacturer (e.g. Phillips, Samsung, Sony, etc). Nothing much. When they stuff up as much as they did with the iPhone 4, they should be called out on it.

    Re: iphone 4 signal problems?

Mildly annoyed today. Popped into the Apple store on the way home to pick up a bumper case - not because of the signal problems, but because being all glass I was worried about scratching it to pieces (also, almost dropped it a few times because it's so smooth)... you know how much they charge? £25!! For something that probably cost less then £1 to design, manufacture, ship and package!

There was a guy in there having a right rant to one of the Apple employees / customer helper people regarding his iPhone4. It was quite funny. He was steaming off about getting the bumper thing for free otherwise he was going to return his phone. Valid argument perhaps, although I doubt he was conducting in the most effective way - think the employee was on the verge of calling security

Yeah because a free case is really a fix for a faulty £600 phone! Pathetic video trying to drag RIM, HTC and Nokia into it when reception issues on their phones are much more difficult to replicate!

Well, it does fix the problem complete. I think the real issue is 1- why you need to use one at all and 2- why it took such a huge media backlash before Apple decided to give them out for free.

Yeah, very underhand tactics. Apple are turning into something nastier then the Microsoft on the 90s. Quite enjoyed the video here:
