Ya, I read those comments
I think HTC scores more now, I'll go for Desire...
Got a HTC Desire myself, brilliant phone and trumps an iphone on most counts!

NOTHING TO BE SEE HERE, MOVE ALONG PLEASE....

If you have money to burn on the 'Apple Tax' then the iPhone, if you want a phone that works and are tied down to Apples way of doing things, the iPhone.
If you want a cheaper contract with a darn good phone which has a little more freedom over the way you operate it, then get an Android phone such as the Desire. I have one, its super, easy, magical. In fact, nearly all the Jobs words used for the iPhone, I can apply to the Desire.
I would recommend the Samsung Galaxy S, even better than the Desire...
Are you a girl? If so, I thought there was some girl thing with iPhones
Google Nexus One as an alternative to the Desire??? Used to be easier to root and you're not waiting around for HTC to provide O/S updates. I have both and the Nexus is easier to fart around with such as custom roms etc and i prefer the physical trackball. However I prefer the Desire's physical buttons (Home, Back Menu etc) to the Nexus' soft touch ones. I also prefer HTC Sense UI & widgets to plain vanilla android but you can easily flash a Nexus to a Desire rom.
desire much better imo.
Desire or HD2
Spec yes, for use no.
The Samsung software is appalling. I have contacts that I have to make a dummy contact to link to so it appears in my phone book, I have a POP email account with 50 unread emails I cannot find and it lags badly unless tasks are killed on a regular basis. It is also slippery to hold due to the polished back and has no trackpad making some apps/games useless
The Desire is better IMO
Install launcher pro and samsung software is no longer a big problem! Get the k9 mail app, and maybe there is a good app for contacts too.
This is one thing I prefer about winmo, everything worked well out of the box, no need to get all these other apps! I'm still struggling to find a way to send emails with big, non-pic/vid attachments...
I have recently upgraded from an HTC Touch HD to a Desire. My wife has also recently gone from a Nokia 5800 to a Desire. We are both happy with it and are enjoying exploring the Apps available. I do agree with other comments that while I had winmo I didn't install any apps at all and the phone did everything I required. On the Desire there are a few apps (and HTC Sense) that I'm not sure I would want to do without.
A friend of mine has a Touch HD2 and wishes he had a Desire simply because he wishes he could be downloading random apps to play with (like Google Goggles).
Lastly, there are several people at work who have iPhone 4's and have not had any issues with this signal strength antenna issue. So I wouldn't let that put you off on its own.
The Desire is a nice handset. Been looking at phones today because my iPhone 3G has really struggled since the 4.0 update. Can't say I liked using Android, it just didn't really click with me. Sense improves things thought and gives HTC's handsets a very real edge over the competition.
I decided to wait. Nothing that's out is really clicking with me so it seems silly to buy now when Q3/4 seem packed with platform launches and updates (which should bring a tirade of new handsets). There's the Windows Phone 7, Meego and Symbian^3 launches along with major updates for both Blackberry and Android.
