    Android Phone for around £250

Hey guys, im looking for an android phone around the price of £250. Something quite good with a decent screen size and a good resolution.
Basically, what i want, is the HTC wildfire but with a screen resolution of 480x320. I dont mind the make but preferably a HTC.
I also dont mind if its refurbished
I am willing to wait a few months, so if you know of a phone that fits my needs then please let me know. Cheers Lads!

P.S if you find a phone slightly over the budget then thats fine, i am willing to pay that bit extra.

    HTC Hero
    Motorola CLIQ
    Acer Liquid

The Acer has the best specification by a mile, (480x800 screen, high end CPU)

yep Acer has the best specs and there appears to be a fairly good dev community for it so a few roms are available. Personally I used to love the Hero but spec wise against the Acer Liquid it can't compete.

I got an X10 mini pro, only QVGA screen but it's fine for most websites and plenty usable with a hardware keyboard.

i'd also check out the unlocked / branded HTC Desire from O2 for £285, that's what I got and I am extremely happy with it + Android 2.2 is out in the next couple of weeks for O2 handsets. I think the UI is better on the Desire and it generally feels a nicer phone.

There is no link. You have to call O2 upgrades/retentions but don't ask for an upgrade, just say you want to buy the phone.

Yup that's what I did, rang of my gf's phone which is on o2 and asked to buy the handset outright for £285. They didn't really question me and too my card details and that was it.

She has a contract, It's worth a ring if you are on PAYG, but otherwise find a friend with an O2 Contract.

ok im considering the Desire, i am on O2 (PAYG), if I could have step to step instructions by someone who has actually done this, it would be great. Also has anyone tried it recently just to confirm that you can still get it. Thanks for all your help guys!

I am on the same boat, have been told to ring O2 upgrades and try. Therefore not sure whether this is achievable. I would take a simplicity SIM, therefore generating more revenue to O2. Makes sense for me to be offered the phone @ £285; but they might think I would get the phone and sign up to another network. Also interested in finding out whether somebody successfully gets the handset.

Re: Android Phone for around £250

I literally rang up 150 and said I am looking to upgrade my phone, was put through to the upgrades department. I then was asked a few security questions and then asked if I could buy the HTC Desire sim-free and was told it would be £285. The chap on the end said that wasn't a problem and confirmed the shipping address and asked whether I wanted to pay buy card or add it onto the bill, I opted for card and that was that.

Very easy, although this was a couple of months ago, I am unsure if they are still offering it at this price, but there is a recent thread on the O2 forums regarding it and many more mentions on the forum if you search older posts.

I agreee.. go desire... don't get the hero, it's outdated.... if you like the hero design get the lengend its pretty nice too. Desire has the fastest processor (snapdragon) = 1ghz processor.
    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz, 2 GB DDR2, 500GB SATA-II 7200RPM, nVidia GeForce 9800GT 512mb, BenQ E2200 HD, BenQ G2412HD, Logitech S510 Wireless set, Creative GigaWorks T3 Speakers.
