    Mobile Phone Insurance...

Looking for a good quote on mobile phone insurance atm, I got offered a "full cover" quote from 3 for £12 a month, which seems like quite a lot considering it's over the 24 month contract which comes to £288 over the length of the contract.

So I'm here to ask for a cheap, but good insurance cover for loss, damage, theft all that kind of stuff..

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Mobile Phone Insurance...

Take a look at your current account and see if your bank offer it as an extra.

Check your home/contents insurance too, sometimes it's covered there as well.

Mine comes under the former and they've paid out on a loss without any quibbles.

    Re: Mobile Phone Insurance...

I doubt my bank would cover my phone tbh, it's only a small building society, so it's not one of the major banks. I'll have a look into it though, cheers .

And I don't have any house insurance here, so that's also not a possibility .

This insurance is for an iPhone 4 btw.

    Re: Mobile Phone Insurance...

You'll find most packaged accounts have cover now as well as things like breakdown, discounted hotel/flight bookings, home emergency services blah blah blah.

I'm normally against them but as get one free from work I can't complain & that's the only reason I'll mention it

RBS do the 'Royalties' account for £6.95/month which includes loads of stuff & cover for one phone - RBS

Lloyds do a few as well.

I'm sure you can Google the rest!

Of course YMMV so check the small print as RBS only just started covering iPhones but most are better value than going direct with your network

    Re: Mobile Phone Insurance...

Watch out for the excess on any policy. The one's that come from the networks often have a £50 excess for a normal phone and £100 for a smart phone so when you add it up it's rarely a good deal.

Turns out my Bank don't do anything like the free cover or anything of the sort, so I'm gonna have to get it elsewhere..

The 3 policy has a £25 excess on the iPhone, which I don't think is too bad, but it's £288 for the 2 years which I just think is far too much tbh. I'd rather put £300 in a bank account and see what happens in the 2 years.

I've found one for £39.99 for a year, which seems a bit too cheap tbh. http://www.betterbuyinsurance.co.uk/

Anyone got any policies that they can recommend?

    Re: Mobile Phone Insurance...

Most of the mobile networks charge around £70/year for mobile insurance, regardless of handset value. For those with expensive handsets, this can be good value as standalone insurers usually take replacement cost into account.
It’s also possible to get cover from FSA regulated online specialist mobile insurers, who offer strong policies with good fraudulent calls cover. With these, lose your phone and they’ll send you the handset, while your network replaces the SIM card (usually for free).

    Re: Mobile Phone Insurance...

Be a little more responsible and just don't lose your handset.. save yourself some money! And yes, just save the £300 in the bank instead... I always thought insurance was stupid to begin with. If you're not responsible enough, then start practicing how to be, because it'll pay off much more than paying however much a month or a year on phone insurance.... trust me

    EDIT:
If you're worried about something happening to your iPhone 4, while you have 10 too many drinks haha, this is what my friend does.
When he goes out to party, he leaves home his unlocked £500 iPhone 3GS (he bought it when the 32gb white just came out) and his TAG. Puts on his mickey mouse and a cheap Nokia. No Joke. LOL.

    Re: Mobile Phone Insurance...

If only it were that easy, theft, accidental damage is common & is probably worth it if you claim once every few years (using the bank account insurance benefit for £7/month as above) especially with a £500 iPhone.
That's not to say people shouldn't be responsible but things happen & that's insurance for you, I've recently claimed on my wifes iPhone as it was dropped, for a £25 excess I'll get a replacement or vouchers to go buy another phone, well worth it for me but I get the account free

Fair statement... if you get the free account. I wish I did too
