    Should Nokia smartphones adopt Android?

Open question, just that I feel Nokia smartphone department has never really took off beyond 'advanced phones' with fat cameras, mp3 players and a little more.

Compared to the big HTC, Blackberry, Apple etc brands anyhow, their smartphones have tanked and the N8 which is just around the corner is getting mediocre reviews - when it's a shame because their hardware build is so terrific. Symbian holding them back? One of my uni friends who was a die hard Nokia fan and even got the recent Nokia N97 mini... and he has now quit getting Nokias as his new £400+ phone he was showing off could do what our phones could already do or do better.

    Is it an easy solution??

Re: Should Nokia smartphones adopt Android?

i don't think its an easy solution but i think they need to touch that part of the market at the very least. When i was in Finland a few months ago they all still rock Nokias... and i mean like EVERYONE. I have one as my work phone and the hardware is, like you said, sterling.
It does seem very odd that they haven't even branched into the Android market given its quite blatant worldwide growth.

I always felt Symbian was a very good phone / organiser OS but it was never really made for a modern world of huge Internet use. I think nokia are trying very hard to make Symbian into something it was never really made to be. IOS and Android where built from the ground up with the Internet in mind. Nokia should really give Android a go for their none business class phones.

Yeah I agree. Babysteps wouldn't hurt, maybe give the N8 an Android variant like N8a - then they can survey it's impact into the market for what it is and judge their movements from thereon.

I agree. Symbian is perfect for the more basic range of phones, those that lack always-on internet connectivity or express the camera as it's biggest feature; because it's so stable and easy to use. Theres no complexity within the phone if the user doesn't actually need complexity. But forcing the mould of their OS to be something else clearly isn't as successful as other smartphone OS's - and with such vicious competition out there - it really has to play catch up with the rest. I mean WebOS on the Palm phones looked epic but even that tanked (in comparison to the others); albeit to a combination of reasons beyond the OS but it still.

    No, not yet at least.
IMHO I dont think Android is quite at the level where its acceptable as a business phone OS.
