Porting my number T-Mobile to T-Mobile

I am looking at starting a new contract with T-mobile via a reseller. I will cancelling my current contract, also with T-mobile, as soon as my contract gets activated. I am very keen on keeping my number (had it for 6 years) so was wondering what my options are. Can I port my number over to, say an orange sim card, then port it from that sim card to my new T-mobile contract? Are there any limitation with doing that?

Call T-Mobile and ask for your PAC code, they might put you through to retentions who may be able to match the contract deal. Otherwise you get the code, give it to the reseller and then your number is ported over to your new contract, regardless of who it is with.

Didn't know you could do this, I always thought you had to bounce it to a different network (PAYG normally) then back again.

Different companies have different policies. Some of them won't, and you have to do what you suggsted, whilst others are okay with it.

Because of EU pressure, they have all had to speed up transfers and be more flexible too.

I was going to do this a few years ago with O2, but they offered me a better deal anyway so I stuck with them at the time (O2 to O2 with CarphoneWarehouse).
