    Useful device specific apps

OCLF (One click lag fix) has all the stuff (after you root) to install the lag fix (2.1 and Froyo on JPM)

Root it, lag fix it. Install quadrant to see how fast it is.

Change the original loader for launcher pro, far prettier, use beautiful widgets aswell, very beautiful.

Re: The Official Samsung Galaxy S Thread!

Yay mine turned up! Even if the uneducated twallop of a delivery man decided to leave it in the secure place of...behind my dustbin!! Was not too impressed with that, nor the fact the little phone box was put into a bigger cardboard box with nothing to secure it in place! I did manage to get in the worlds quickest gym session so I could come back and have a proper play with it. The screen is pornography, can't get over just how beutiful it is!

Now I have been reading up on this ''rooting''. Is this basically unlocking the phone to allow after market programs & modifications to run on it? I have found a few walkthroughs on XDA developers but nothing that I feel massively confident in following. Does anyone have one they followed through to the end?

With the Froyo update as well, what's the latest news on it? AFAIK it isn't out officially. If I root the device will it cause any problems if I try to install Froyo on it once it has been officially released?

And the Lag fix - what sort of lag issues does the phone have that need fixing?

    Many Thanks guys

I can't for the life of me find out how to put auto correction on for the qwerty keyboard, I am sure it works but having spent 20mins looking through every setting & menu i cant find any option for it! I found a way of turning it on with the predictive text but I cant stand it, just want it to auto-correct the words I am typing.

^ this, although I don't hold much stock by the quadrant scores. ADW is another decent launcher, although I opted for launcher pro in the end.

    ^ and this

Rooting won't affect upgrading to froyo, but you'll need to root it again afterwards. Rooting basically allows applications full access to the phone. Once rooted when you run an app that needs it you'll be asked to confirm giving it root access. In most cases it won't cause problems but you need to be aware what you are granting this access to - there's a reason the stock firmware doesn't do this.
If you install the lag fix on 2.1, however you may need to remove this before upgrading.

I've not got round to installing JPM yet, still running JPK but it's a big improvement over the stock 2.1 firmware.
If you don't want to take the froyo leap just yet try JM6 instead, which I *think* was the best of the 2.1 firmwares and definitely an improvement on the stock one.

And if you haven't discovered it yet head over to xda-developers.com

Re: The Official Samsung Galaxy S Thread!

I got 2240 on quadrant with lagfix on 2.1 a very good score. I am yet to try anything but stock firmware. Also check if your phone can go into 3button mode, if it cant, that needs fixing before rooting.

Thanks for the responses guys, my main issue now is getting auto correct to work without the t9 input (where it predics the word for you). Does anyone know how i enable it?

    Thanks guys

You can type as a normal keypad with swype, and it does auto correction though

Re: The Official Samsung Galaxy S Thread!

Even with Swype mine doesn't auto correct. It is really starting to annoy me now, just the odd word I have to go back and fix...the sort of thing the phone would have done it for me. I am sure the women in the T-mob shop set it up so it auto corrected on the QWERTY keyboard, I just can;t remember how she did it. That is without using the Swpye input!

Re: The Official Samsung Galaxy S Thread!

Thanks MadduckUK, I think I am after a feature that doesnt exist. Whilst that gets me 90% there, if I hit the wrong letter the word predictor goes nuts an djust puts in gibberish, as opposed to realising the letter I meant to hit is near the one I hit by mistake & corrects it for me.

I must have made that feature up though! Still got a good compromise with the setings above though, thanks for taking the time to spell (huh huh huh ) it out for me!

Re: The Official Samsung Galaxy S Thread!

Anyway, now that we have aligned my stupidity with the phone's abilities I have to say it is a cracking phone! The screen is amazing and the power really is impressive.

It is such a giant leap forwards compared to my old HTC Touch pro 2! Just need T-Mobile to release Froyo (end of November apparently - utterly ridiculous) and to have a look at rooting it out as well! So Far I am yet to experience any lag or trouble areas though.

Still curious for any good apps to get hold of!
