Icecream Sandwich (Android 4.0.3) sleeps and then loses Wifi, and won't reconnect

    Lo people

Plugged in and charging, my mates Tablet is solid on Wifi: it connected fine and stay's connected.

With it OFF charge.. so long as it's in constant use... is holds a good wifi signal and if it does go out of range when he walks about the office, and comes back into range it re-connects.

But... if it goes to sleep from not being used... it won't re connect. Not even if it's plugged back into charge. It needs to be restarted, and then all is well.

We've tried 3 different wifi apps but none solve it. And the menu for icecream sandwich doesn't have an option to disable the power saving feature that is clearly coming into play. Many forums imply it SHOULD have an option..but it's not there.

    Any ideas?

Does Android get "patched" like Windows does?

Having googled it a lot... it seems to be cross-hardware-platform... so not sure it's the Tablet to blame.

All I can say is that my phone on 4.0.3 doesn't have this problem. So it definitely isn't a universal problem.

So there isn't a "keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" option? Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Menu -> Advanced. Second option down.

And Android gets patched like... well Android really.

Google update the OS, vendors update their specific distribution of the OS for that device. Network locked devices also have to have patches approved by the network before they are pushed out to devices.

Re: Icecream Sandwich (Android 4.0.3) sleeps and then loses Wifi, and won't reconnect

How very odd. I wonder if it's a software/driver limit of the OS that the vendor has loaded on to the tablet or a limitation of the hardware that tablet is using.
