Charging Galaxy s - Disables screen?

When I am charging my Samsung Galaxay S via USB/connected to a usb charger the screen seems to eb disabled so I can’t unlock it/use the phone. I have to unplug it, turn the screen off then on again and only then will it let me unlock the screen & change music tracks or send a txt etc.

I have tried turning usb debug on/off and using the phone as a mass storage device etc but it still disable the screen whenever it is plugged in. This hugely frustrating, as to change music track etc at work I have to unplug the phone & go through the routine above before plugging it back in again.

Is there a way around it?

doesn't happen for me, i use it while its charging all the time

if someone calls you while its charging does the screen function? what firmware?

hmm, seems odd then. Occasionaly it does regster my finger on the screen (I have the shapes to unlock the screen) and it will register my finger sliding across one, but then stop. Most of the time it doesnt even detect this though.

I am using the stock ROM on a fully standard phone. Waiting for froyo before I start fiddling with it all!

had a poke around the webs, known problem and firmware update is the solution it seems. official froyo is reeeally close now though so if you can live with it until then...

It depends on your carrier but froyo has been out 10+ days already for some (JPP/JPO) sync it with samsung kies and see if it will offer you a firmware upgrade (JP* is froyo)

Stock firmware will vary depending on when your phone was manufactured and if there was any carrier customisation done

Make sure you've got the latest Kies installed otherwise you won't get given the update even if you've got an updatable firmware on there. Should be 1.5.3.10103_100. If you've got stock firmware with a stock ROM you should get the update like keithwalton says.
