T-Mobile massively reduces phone data allowance

It is down to 500MB now:

    http://www.electronista.com/articles...00mb.from.3gb/

    http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/help-a...t=DATA_CHANGES

It seems Three maybe the only network if you want a decent data allowance. Their mobile broadband is the cheapest too.

So, what is GiffGaff exactly as this could be of some interest to me...

Edit: Giffgaffs website says unlimited internet until the 28th of February 2011... but then says it will still be free form that date. I R Confused.

That "Free Mobile Internet until 28th of Feb" is 100Mb per day for anyone, even on pure pay as you go (although the date keeps getting pushed further and further back)

But on the Goodybags it's unlimited internet Even after the 28th of Feb (so long as you purchase a Goodybag every month of course (It's like a contract without... Well... The contract...))

    http://giffgaff.com/index/pricing

    Free Mobile Internet:
You lucky giffgaff pioneers can even enjoy free UK mobile Internet up to the 28 FEB 2011. After that date, mobile Internet will be charged at 50p a day (if you use less than 2.5MB/day you'll pay less than 50p and if you go over 30MB you'll be charged extra at 20p/MB). But all our goodybags that include unlimited Internet will continue including unlimited Internet after the 28 FEB 2011.
    Is unlimited really unlimited?
The answer is yes, we are unlimited for personal mobile use - but not for commercial and automated use. Mobile Internet allowances exclude PC use and tethering.

Re: T-Mobile massively reduces phone data allowance

I've heard of this giffgaff before and am currently on o2.
I pay £35pcm for 600 anytime any network minutes, 500 text's (doubled to 1000) and the Unlimited data bolt on thing.
Thing is I use probably less than 200 minutes and probably only just the 500 messages.

I dont have a phone bundled in with that I could just use SIM only as I get my phones direct.

Its probably more the case that the capacity isnt easy, or cheap, to increase, and with more people using it (read uptake of smartphones) they want to make the best use of it without spending money.

It doesnt help that others also have lower caps, so where one goes, others follow.

I think the real issue is that demand, and use, is higher than they want it to be.

Just be thankful they havent tried to be more forceful in supporting the US model, where you pay to receive calls and texts, even unsolicited ones.

For the same thing on giffgaff, well... With unlimited messages... It would be £20, or for a tenner you can get 250 minutes unlimited texts and unlimited internet

Plus, they have a thing called payback, whereby you can make money by going on their forums and helping out, and by getting people on the network, last period I got just over 30 quid back, so it's not too shabby.
there were people getting 900 odd quid too D:

But, it also runs off the o2 network and is owned by o2 so you get a decent signal coverage

They have had a couple of outages one fairly recently which was a problem with equipment between them and o2 I think (it's on their website about it, as they came straight out with the fact there was a problem and the steps they were trying)

From my phone so sorry if there are any mistakes

This is some of the info about the outage (so you can make an informed decision), there's a forum thread/twitter/facebook full of updates that were happening at the time to to keep people informed :

They don't have call centres, so all of the support is online, and alot of the support is community led (apart from account specific things of course ) So that's the catch really

I think there is a thread on it somewhere

Re: T-Mobile massively reduces phone data allowance

I was chatting to dangel (he'll be along shortly) about this T-mobile lark, and I said 'I don't care if "the average user" only uses 200MB. I DO care that their attitude to that average user is "Yeah, we know what we told you, and what we sold you, but a) we changed our minds, b) you're screwed and c) there's nothing you can do about it.". Seriously, that's one hell of a bait and switch they've pulled.' Now dangel reckons 'any significant change in contract gives you the ability to cancel' but if that's true, A LOT of T-mobile will move to, say, 3. Is it really that easy? To quote UK contractual law?

It doen't affect me, being on Voda. Interesting though.

Re: T-Mobile massively reduces phone data allowance

I've yet (or the missus) to be informed of any change by T-Mobile. I'm debating what to do but effectively I do believe it's within reason to expect to be able to terminate the contact (and perhaps lose the phone) given they've changed the terms. I'm sure they'll beg to differ naturally.

Neither of us are particularly heavy data users but as HTC Desire owners we kind of want to use the internet with our internet phone. I *need* gmaps/navigation etc. I don't download much at all - i've no idea how much I would use in a typical month.
