GRRRR it must be killing you! :D
I blame the YouTube app, so that would be Google's fault, not HTC.
I believe Android puts apps into a suspended state when they are not at the forefront. This state would stop playback of media. There are ways to override this, after all, you get apps that will let you play music even when the screen is off.
I presume that the YouTube devs made the assumption that if you weren't actually watching the video, you wouldn't want to have the media playing. After all, YouTube is about video, not audio like Spotify or Last.FM :)
Your logic is right, however it was youtube within the internet browser, which I assume isn't running through HTCs youtube app? Still, I guess the same applies, it's just annoying as there are mixes on there I want to listen to at the same time as doing other things.
In that case, have you tried the YouTube app? :)
I would actually say that a web browser is more likely to go into a suspended state while in the background, especially when there are embeded flash objects. It would be completely pointless animating a flash advert on a web page on a phone when you can't see it, all you are going to do is kill your battery.
because you havent bothered looking to see if any software supports this?
and if its not out there as the devs of the various (and there are loads) browsers or apps to add the feature in.
smartphones rely on you getting the software you want. My phone lacked a ballistics calculator, did I rant?? no I went out and found one.
Well I disagree. Something as simple as that, in something as complex as a smartphone should be there by default. It's something I expect, I don't want to have to go and find something else to do a simple task. I'm not asking for a balistics calculator, I'm asking for youtube to simply continue playing when I'm in another tab.
You're playing/streaming video so the screen is needed; no video = no audio.
So you don't have to "go and find something else to do a simple task" download TubeMate YouTube Downloader by pointing your phone at the QR code below.

Save the videos to your SD card and play them while you surf :D
Thanks :D
However, that doesn't explain why the video has to stop. My PC 10 years ago could have 2 Internet Explorer windows open, one playing a video and one looking at a any other webpage so I fail to see why it should have to stop. Still, I guess I'm asking too much from current technology so I'll live with it.
mycarsavw speaks truth!
such a brilliant app, you could also get poweramp which can play mp4 as mp3 music (no video) or act 1 video player, which can also minize while playing a video playlist :)
