HTC Desire HD, 600 minutes, 3000 texts, 500MB, £22.98, 24 months. Good deal or not?

    Hi guys,

Just negotiating with Orange upgrades and been offered this deal, which provides what I would need, but I'm unsure of its value.

    Dolphin 30
    300 minutes + 300 loyalty minutes = 600 minutes
    "Unlimited" (3000) texts
    500MB Internet
Push email (not sure why I would need that in addition to browsing)
    HTC Desire HD

...all for £22.98 per month on a 24-month contract (or £30.64 on an 18-month contract, which works out as the same cost).

Do you think this is a good deal or are they trying to fob me off?

EDIT: This is what I'm moving from:
    Racoon 40 - 18 month
    900 + 500 minutes = 1300
    500 + 100 texts = 600 texts
    80MB Internet
    Unlimited landline minutes
    Nokia 5800
    ~ £30-£35 per month

    Appreciate your thoughts.

Its better than your current deal however will the phone last 24 months? My experience of mobiles is you really need to replace them before that.

Only one way to find out To be honest, though, I'm not too worried about that - it's the same cost as the 18 month contract, and I'll probably order a case for it, which should offer some protection. It's more the contract terms I'm concerned about.

Well I guess it down to if you use that number of minutes, as the new contract has less than half the amount of your old one and you don't get free land line access. If however you want more internet and texts, and less minutes that its a winner. If you have an HTC you will need atleast that for internet access to use it as a smart phone.

The old contract was, in retrospect, really over the top: I never used anywhere near 1000 minutes. So after some analysis I reckon 600 minutes is really all that's needed, but could do with more internet access than previously. 500MB should be fine.

I'm really just interested in knowing whether the deal I've been offered is about par with other people's deals on this phone, or whether I should ring them back and push for more.

EDIT: OK, had another chat with them and they've upped their offer:

    Canary 25
    800 minutes
    "Unlimited" texts
    500MB Internet
    15 photo messages
    HTC Desire HD

    for £20.41/month, 24 month contract.

The original deal is cheaper from Dialaphone after redemption when you factor in cashback and it's over 18 months, got it for my girlfriend last week, worked out about £20 a month after redemption (and I got £20 as a refer a friend, she got £50 from quidco too which is another £3 off a month effectively)

Re: HTC Desire HD, 600 minutes, 3000 texts, 500MB, £22.98, 24 months. Good deal or no

Thanks for all the replies. After some further negotiation Orange dropped the price of rental and offered me:

    Canary 25 (24 month)
    800 minutes
    "Unlimited" texts
    500MB Internet
    15 photo messages
    HTC Desire HD

for £17.88/month + £13.49 for the handset, which works out at £442.61. Considering the phone would cost about £390 sim free I reckoned that was a good deal and plumped for that.

    Thanks again,

    Leggie

its actually a matter of choice but the way ppl prefer HTC phones had also influenced me to buy HTC phones and specially im fascinated by HTC Desire which i bought last month. In terms of look each and every phones that are being launched by HTC has a speciality and look wise they are superior. Actually HTC Desire that i bought is on contract with three bt later on i found it is also available sim free and on contract with three its affordable....

Sounds like you got an absolutely fantastic deal there!... Great handset with a great contract.. Even though it is for 2 years, you're paying so comparatively little that it doesn't matter if you want to upgrade your handset in less than 24 months time, you'd still make good money back for the handset.

Personally I don't think they are ugly, Sure, they aren't a slap of glass and metal like certain other devices, but they are functional, well built and feel nice to hold, but they look good enough so that one doesn't grimace whenever it's taken from your pocket...
