There is no Desire HD2. The Desire HD has got appalling battery life. I would look at the Desire S or the Incredible S.

The Incredible S is as far as I know the best of the lot, with a good amount of ram and inbuilt storage, very capable camera, the latest version of HTC Sense and a manageable size screen at 4", without being (IMHO) too big like the Desire HD (4.3"). It also has the updated Qualcomm processor with better multitasking and a smaller processor production meaning it doesn't get so hot and theoretically uses less power than the original Desire / Desire HD / Desire Z.
HTC ChaChaCha = blackberry style phone with hardware qwerty keyboard, but a smaller screen that doesn't work with all android apps. Only good really if you want a physical keyboard and are addicted to social networks / texting and not much more.
HTC Wildfire = small version of a desire, again the screen can be restrictive, but for general internet / social / media it is a fantastic phone for the price that you can get it for.
HTC Desire S = An updated version of the Desire (last years phone of the year for most people) Very similar to the Incredible S but with a 3.7" screen.
HTC Desire HD / HTC HD 7 = Virtually the same hardware, but one runs Android 2.2 with the latest version of sense, the other runs Windows phone 7. Both are said to be restricted by their battery life, but otherwise a fantastic phone.

NOTHING TO BE SEE HERE, MOVE ALONG PLEASE....

My Desire HD lasts a day and a half, depending on what I do with it.
What you find appalling other users with different useage levels might find it plenty acceptable.
If you know your a heavy smartphone user you take steps to cover yourself, car chargers, desk chargers, spare batteries, not buying an iPhone etc....
Day - day and a half is pretty much the norm for a large smart phone though?
I have a google nexus s now, which I love. If I put low brightness on, app killer and turn synch off (i.e. make it manual synch for emails etc) I get about 3 days out of it including a bunch of cell calls and skype calls.
My old HTC Tattoo, on which the contract is still running for a few more weeks, I find that if I turn just about everything off (wifi, mobile data) it goes for ages. Its been going about two weeks now just languishing on my bedside table.

What about the new HTC Sensation. Sounds like a great new version. Dual core + 1500+ mah batt.

tbh I've never seen a samsung phone that blew anything out of the water, they just seem cheap to me where as, granted HTC's seem to release phones with the tiniest of revisions but all of mine have been solidly build..
I wouldn't go quite so far as to say it 'blows it out of the water', that smacks of rabid fanboism but it certainly is the winner of the first round of 'new wave' smartphones.
The only thing going for the Sensation (above the Samsung) is the screen res. I was an HTC devotee but the Sensation is a little bit of a letdown after Samsung stepped up to the plate with a surprisingly capable piece of kit.
Yes, it does balls.
The Galaxy S II build quality is excellent, its plastic and light but solid and feels well made.
Ok then, it is 'considerably superior'. You can try and argue against that but you won't be able to.
I'm not a fanboy of any kind, HTC have released a phone that is inferior to the Galaxy S II and there is no good reason to buy it. HTC fanboys are just inventing reasons, its actually quite hilarious.
Having got them both here, you really don't notice the screen res very much, and when you do it doesn't really help. The screen is horrible to look at in comparison too.
Its build quality is excellent, but its made from plastic?
How well is that plastic body going to hold up after a years worth of use, being dropped by the kids, being put in the same pocket as your keys, chucked in the door card, missing the door card and bouncing on the path when you throw it in the door card with the door open, flexing?
Just as well as the aluminium one, its not cheap and cheerful plastic that breaks easily.
If you are giving it to your kids to trash, you want it in a case anyway, no matter what its made from.
