Worth getting a Desire HD now?

I've had my HD2 for many moons now, contract is up and want to upgrade. The iPhone, whilst pretty nice to use, is a bit too expensive. I have used Android on my HD2 for the past 6 months or so and am loving it, so want an Android phone, preferably one like the HD2 (with a nice big screen).

However, I know how fast these companies churn out new phones, and the Desire HD is a few months old now, so I'm wondering if there's a new HD in the pipeline that anyone knows of? Or should I just bite the bullet and get the Desire HD now?

Don't bother with the DesireHD now. Look towards the HTC Sensation / Motorola Atrix.

I'm looking at the Sensation next, or perhaps keeping the DHD for a bit longer, getting a tablet and then getting whatever comes after the Sensation..

In the same situation, upgrade due in a week. I guess I'll hold out for a bit and see if anything pops up.. I'm good with my Hero for now.

Iphone 4 is by far the best thing out but totally agree on the pricing as it is way to high !!! If I was you i'd look towards the EVO 3d.

I don't want to go into a debate on iPhone vs. anything else, but apart from it's ease of use (which appeals to many) I don't see that much benefit of it over any other top end mobile that's way cheaper.

As for the above, I wasn't aware of the Sensation and after checking it out, it looks lovely. However, according to websites it's out in a few weeks on Vodafone and in June for other operators. I guess I can keep my HD2 until June.

Re: Worth getting a Desire HD now?

When the Sensation arrives the price of the Desire HD will start dropping over the following few weeks. Of course, if you're getting one on contract, then that won't matter (they'll probably still charge you the same anyway!).

If you've never had such a large phone, then keep in mind you'll probably want a second battery to carry around just in case. Normal modern smartphones are bad enough, but with a screen the size of the HD, apparently the battery just drops like a stone.

My HTC Touch Pro died a few weeks ago and I'm on an old i-mate SP3 (good old Hexus.bargains ) until the Sensation comes out. I don't expect it to be cheap, but then it looks quite a phone. It's just a shame the bootloader will be locked down in the same way the Incredible S and Desire S is, hence if we're to get custom ROMs, it might take a while.

Re: Worth getting a Desire HD now?

Been using the HD2 for about 2 years, so am used to it. I know about battery life as well. I always keep my USB cable with me and charge it when at work, I don't think it's ever run out when I have needed it thanks to this.

And yeah, I'll be getting it on a contract, so hopefully I won't have to pay a lot when it comes out.

Re: Worth getting a Desire HD now?

Are you dual booting WM6.5 and Android? Or have you installed MAGDLR/CLK and flashed it?

I've got this rom flashed and am enjoying Android over WM6.5 - the texting on WM6.5 was chronically slow for me.. have only had it this way for 3 months or so but I'm going to hold out for another year or so (unless i lose/break my HD2 in the meantime) and see what dualcore/decent gpu/etc phones are out... My phone does enough now and the newer phones aren't enough of an upgrade to justify the cost.

Dual booting, but I barely let WM load before booting straight into Android.

Re: Worth getting a Desire HD now?

Any strong reasons for not flashing Android? With Clockwork Recovery Mod it's easy to backup / try new kernels / roms. Unless there are some apps you need on WM6.5 I'd suggest making the switch.

Have you been tempted to try WP7 on your HD2? I may give it a go once NoDo is released (or Mango depending how long it takes)?

Re: Worth getting a Desire HD now?

Laziness I guess... When I first used Android on my HD2 it had only just been ported and had to be run once booted into WM. Haven't really looked into it since, as it's not a major issue, I rarely reboot my phone.

The Desire HD was average when it came out, and its even worse now.

its too old! not to start the flame war but in terms of specs the Galaxy SII seems best, followed by the Xperia Arc which i highly recommend then the Desire S
