    HTC Wildfire question...

I've just got an HTC Wildfire...
I've transferred data from my old Nokia (very impressed!), and it has also imported email addresses from my Google account and info from Facebook, into my 'address book'. I have then linked the old Nokia info to both the email address and Facebook info for each drain. So far so good....

The problem is, when I want to text, and go to the address book, it shows 3 or 4 contacts for the same person (even though they are linked) and only one of those has the mobile number in that I want to text to, so not only do I then have hundreds of contacts to scroll through, but I then have to make sure I choose the right one ie the one with the mobile number in.
The only way around it I can see is to manually copy any additional info I want into one, then delete the Facebook contact... pain in the bot.

Question is... Am I being dim?! Is there another way?!!

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.

Hmmmm - I have one of these. I never go into the address book.
I am usually staright into the messaging area, then either start a new thread from the listings shown for the right person. (mostly I'm texting maybe 12 people in total)
Or use the search thingy from the messaging page. HTH
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

    Re: HTC Wildfire question...

You can hide address locations, menu, view, will allow you to show/hide them, I tend to just have the ones from google on there tho as its easier, plus it updates from facebook etc still even with them hidden as they are linked..

    Thanks!
Next question.... can I watch YouTube and BBCiPlayer on the Wildfire?

There is a YouTube app preloaded on the phone, but it doesn't seem to work. I get to search for stuff, but when I press to play I get a message saying 'There was a problem while playing. Touch to retry' but touching to retry just brings up the same error message.

When I go to iPlayer, it says that I need to download Adobe Flash for Android from the Market, but when I click the link, it says it doesn't exist

Menu > Settings > About phone > Software Information

What version of Android does it show - 2.1 or 2.2?

I'll guess at 2.1 or earlier which would explain why you can't see Flash Player in the Market.

If it is, backup your phone and then follow the same path as above but instead of tapping Software Info, tap System software updates to see if there are any OTA updates. AFAIK all networks should have released OTA updates for the Wildfire.

If it's 2.2 then ignore the above

Thanks for that.... But no updates available Its on 2.2.1
Seems odd I can't watch YouTube if others can!

    Re: HTC Wildfire question...

Adobe are blocking Flash from most phones, supposedly because they're not fast enough to run it.

Even the Wildfire S has the same issue, and that has 2.3 and double the screen resolution.

I'm sure third party flash players will appear some time, though I wouldn't fancy watching iplayer on a Wildfire anyhow

I'm sure neither will look great when played on this screen but it would still be good to have and I just want to understand why it won't work! Especially YouTube, when the phone comes with it already installed. Grrrr!

    Re: HTC Wildfire question...

    Bugger again.

Does it install if you use the AppBrain app?

I suspect cookie365 may have hit the nail on the head.

The Wildfire isn't supported by Adobe - see here

As suggested above, you could give myplayer a try but you'll need to find an older version as the current one removes the BBC channels.

The YouTube thing appears to be quite common too.

If you're within the 28(?) day return period, you could see if the Orange SanFrancisco is still knocking around for £100 (PAYG) - it can be unlocked for free to any network and does all the things you're trying to do.

    Re: HTC Wildfire question...

Take it back and get something else, the Wildfire is one of the worst Android phones out there. Horrible user experience.
