New contract time..best WM or Sense Phone?

    Hi all,

My contract is up for renewal in a month or so, and i'm starting to look at my options now..the way I see it, I have 3 choices. I'm on o2 at the moment with an iPhone 4.

    1) Keep the iPhone 4 and move to iPhone simplicity - should save me £15 a month or so..this is tempting, but £15 isn't really much money to be honest.

    2) Switch to a top end Windows Phone, phone. I'm intrieged by the OS but I have no knowledge of the devices at the moment. Very tempted by the HTC Touch Pro successor with a hardware keyboard - but not certain yet.

    3) Switch to an Android phone, but it would /have/ to include HTC Sense as a minimum requirement..to be honest I am not at all motivated to go android but it's an option if the device is good enough.

So i'm after some recommendations on devices really if I go for option 2 or 3. I'm of the opinion that I can probably negotiate a better contract anyway with my renewal, and then if I don't like the new device..i'm happy to sell it on and stick with my iPhone. So for me it's really a win win either way..although my girlfriend would rather I get a new phone so that she can half inch my iPhone to replace her awful awful ZTE droid

Also intereted in any phones coming out over the next few months..i'm not in a great rush to replace this one

one of the new dual core phones would be the way to go.

    Htc sensation
    http://www.htc.com/uk/product/sensat...ification.html
    Motorla atrix http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/GB...TRIX-GB-EN.alt

both android obviously the htc has sense UI.

Personally i'd stick with the iphone i don't like them myself but its not a bad phone

I like the htc sensation as already have a htc and thats what i am hoping to get when my contract expires january next year

I was faced with a similar choice, I decided to keep my DesireHD and move to giffgaff, what you pay extra over a normal contract to pay for the phone over the 18/24 months you might as well just stick with what you have, plus the saving you make coming off contract to even something like simplicity means (if you save the money not spend it) that by the time your iphone dies you have enough to buy a new phone.

Personally I'll wait a bit longer and see what comes after the sensation then get a new phone, unless a tablet gets the better of me by then and I get a tablet instead, that is of course if I dont break the DHD...

You have 2 macs and an iPhone 4 and you're considering getting shut of the iPhone? Are you genuinely sure that you'd want to leave your iPhone behind?

I know we're, by and large, anti-Apple around here - myself included - but I'm not sure what you've got to gain.

Any phone is going to probably have a worse screen res, new app market that you haven't used before, different approach that you're not used to, and almost certainly won't tie in with the rest of the kit you have.

If your girlfriend is so keen on getting the iPhone you'd probably be better off getting a really cheap sim-only contract and grabbing a second hand or refurb 3GS wouldn't you?

Just seems a bit of a strange move, that's all!

2 Macs which both run Windows The mac pro was cheaper than any comparable PC at the time (sadly new mac pros are back to being overpriced) and the mac air well..moment of madness but i love it anyway.

Considering leaving the iPhone behind for 12 months, yup definitely..more than likely NOT for android, but for WinMob again. It's a fair point anyway - i might not go ahead, but it's always always worth looking at the options. I genuinely believe that the iPhone 4 has been the best phone on the market until very recently (possibly still is), however not sure what will happen in the next few months..something may come out that is better (not the 4GS, since that'l be a spec bump)..but gotta investigate the alternatives

In your position I think I'd keep the iPhone and then switch to Simplicity, if your happy with the phone you have why go through all the bother of getting used to something new and then hating it later ?

Better the devil you know etc.

Re: New contract time..best WM or Sense Phone?

WP7 is a very different beast to its predecessors, and quite frankly lacking features until 'Mango'.

I've a Omnia7 and I love the screen, AMOLED is much better than the old fashioned TFT, thou I do sometimes whish the resolution was higher for website reading.

It also has to be said that you'd be finding fewer good games, and they'd cost more. If you had no phone I'd easily recomend it over the iPhone as my biggest complaint with WP7 is the lack of flash (until the end of the year) because the same games costing £1 more, who cares the handset is £200 less, I doubt I'd ever buy 100 games.....

But because you've got one already, I think I'd have to recomend andriod despite its vile UI. But the iPhone UI isn't great anyway, kinda like windows 3.1, but its consistant, 'driod aint, and WP7 just doesn't have the options. (yet!)

Re: New contract time..best WM or Sense Phone?

There is no perfect phone. Although I am surprised you have Apple based hardware and run Windows. I think you must be despised in the Apple community!

The iPhone is a good phone, don't get me wrong, and if you like apps then the majority of developers favour iPhone over the others at the moment IMO. Although most are getting ported over to Android. Hard to see where Google is going, is it going to shut up shop like Apple? I loved my Desire and its customisability, but now HTC have begun encrypting bootloaders. At least with the iPhone you can jailbreak (which mine is) and it opens up a better world.
