OTH,it would mean that AMOLED production capacity would have to be ramped up a lot due to the current shortages.

Thats it, im going to have to get one of these!
or shall i just wait for the ipad4?
It would be interesting to see the battery life... I believe part of the reason iPad2 didn't get AMOLED screen was very poor battery life.
We seem to carelessly accept the fact our smartphones have to be charged every single day almost with good use out of them - I'm kinda opposite here, sod that, let have 5 days out of our smartphones?
I own BB 8520, batter lasts forever, with charging it on Sunday my week goes by and on Saturday it fully drained. This is with receiving around 150+ emails a day and using it ALOT as a phone.
My missus previous Desire was shocking, barely managed 1 day, current 3GS can do 2 days which is still appalling.
Seems strange that everything else moves forward but battery research/development is stuck! Then again, we want dual/quad core phones in our pockets...

Indeed, battery life is hampered by the ever increasing power of the phones, the ever decreasing efficiency of the software running on it and the desire for thin phones.
And I dont think its a case of "we want dual/quad core", its that manufacturers keep sticking them in and convincing us we need it.
Personally I don't believe it.
Samsung touted a very high res 'retina' 10" screen a while ago that I believe is still based on IPS technology, I think Apple would go for a res hike over AMOLED as AMOLED screens is one of the features that Samsung have constantly told everyone makes their phone better than an iP4, so it seems illogical for Apple to jump aboard the OLED band-wagon now as it would almost appear like defeat!

NOTHING TO BE SEE HERE, MOVE ALONG PLEASE....
:: of all the things i've lost i miss my mind the most ::
yeh this has to be a load of nonsense.
AMOLED power consumption is higher, whilst delivering worse in light performance.
As for phones and short batterylife, the iPhone showed people don't care.
Just went away for a long weekend myself, I brought one spare battery for my Omnia7, thanks to only sending a couple of txts and <10min calls, didn't even need it.... Try that with an iPhone or DesireHD...... Its just no one cares.
Tablets we've been taught to expect longer than cheap laptop batterylifes.

The super amoled plus screens are actually really good in sunlight. Big step up from the desire amoled
i think apple will stick to ips screen because of the higher res
as cpu performance increases people will want HD on tablets and thats just no possible with amoled screens
even dell are using ips tech on their high res monitors
theres no real benefit to led tech on screen compared to the high res of ips
This is one of the reason's that i own "ZERO" apple products, iPad has been out for what ... just over a year and we are nearing the 3rd revision ... im sure they could have done this in there "ipad1 or 2" but no ... they have to wait for the 3rd one to come out to do this and other basic changes
If there was a year between revision then i could live with that but 3 versions a year for want of a better word is a rip off ..

It seems that the iPad3 may have a 3D display:

Of course this will mean that Apple officially invented 3D displays in mobile products* of course!!What do you expect from the "inventors" of the PC,digital music player and tablet??
*Nintendo,Nvidia and LG will be conveniently forgotten by many tech reviewers.

Push email turned on all the time. Probably did a couple of searches, not much mind. Thing is, three days no issues.
That said when streaming music from bluetooth, handsfree call mode, it does suck the juice quite a lot, it ran out of battery about half an hour before my friends desire which erm, hadn't really been used at all, about 36 hours total, 8 hours spent on the road (playing music), half an hour on phone call.
But in all those scenarios the AMOLED (which looks great 95% of the time) was erm, off. They suck the juice.
