I am 22 years old and this is the first mobile I have ever owned, it's going unappreciated at the moment because I have idea where to begin, rooting and rom is like the being in the bios right? is there anythink you recomend to get me started.

    Re: SGSII Thread

I really like Samsung galaxy S2 but some users are advice to do not buy samsung galaxy s2, iOS is better than Android. one of my friend says according to Orange, the S2 suffers from some technical glitches (TW rather than Android) and if they aren't fixed they might not release it...has anyone on other networks found any problems? Main ones identified are to do with alarm (goes off a week late) and lock screen. So just little worried about buy SGS2 or not?

^ If that's the only problems they can come up with you should be laughing. I have no problems with mine and I've uninstalled touchwiz anyway, plus rumour has it it is getting 2.3.4 this week. I'm going to stay away from that iOS comment, not worth my time.

@Carl1989 check here for a good start. It's a kernel to flash that roots your phone and gives it clockworkmod.

Thank you for your link mark22 but that's a bit beyond me at the moment, I will come back to it once I get used to android

In two months time I will be up to date with mobile modding and my phone will be self aware and exterminating everybody, happened with last comp.

Anyway to answer your question madduck, by staying indoors pc gaming and having no friends.
But I'm getting out there now It's time to find a female to mate with.

    Re: SGSII Thread

Titanium backup is a good one for freezing and removing unwanted bloatware. Blade buddy for changing LCD density is handy to use in combination with a 3rd party launcher such as go launcher ex to create a 5x5 or more icon grid on the homescreen. Tegrak overclock is something else I have been toying with for over and underclocking possibilities.

Obviously you should research and take care using all of the above.

Then there is Chainfire3D which allows you to run Tegra 2 games very nicely on the Exynos chip (some work some don't atm). And lastly I'd suggest having a play with juice defender to control your data connection for extended battery life.

    Re: SGSII Thread

Carl, I wouldn't start rooting and flashing roms yet for a couple of reasons. Firstly, since you are new to this you are more likely to make a mistake and end up with a brick. Secondly, since it's quite a new device, flashing custom roms isn't as easy and safe as it will be in a few weeks and the custom roms have fewer advantages than they eventually will.

Just enjoy the stock rom (which is great) and worry about the advanced stuff when you have some more experience!

    Re: SGSII Thread

Had mine since the launch. Not rooted or tried any custom roms as I'm pretty happy with the stock one (KE2), so no real reason to fiddle.

Happy with the battery life, use as mp3 player to and from work, some light surfing, background updates, some texting and calls; I get about 3 and half days between charges.

Anyone got the mhl hdmi cable yet?

A good case seems to be hard to find, I've tried two pouches both of which seem to not fit great and add a bit too much bulk. So now going to give one of these a go:

I believe catchuptv works on 3G and has an android page/app.

Edit: scratch that I take it you mean streaming TV without using your data tariff?

Shame about Tmob Splash, was considering moving over to them when they had easily the best included free data, and arguably the best speed. guess its gone downhill a bit recently.

Their HSDPA coverage has been getting steadily worse over the past 6 months too. My Vodafone contract gets me 750Mb, as well as free BT Openzone wifi so I reckon I'll be alright.
