I've been holding off from buying a phone as of late, partly because I'm a little curious to see what Nokia can pull out of the bag...with Windows...and this looked quite nice - Meego!

I just can't get over the concern that it's stillborn - i.e. "here's our amazing new phone platform. Now it's discontinued, since we're Windows-only. Have fun with that"

Yea it's kinda wack. The hardware looks good, and from the demo's I've seen of it & Meego looks good aswell. It seems to work well, simple yet effective navigation / UI.

But who knows if it will be supported in the future.

Most people in general just want to make phone calls, browse the web, take a few snaps and to upload them easily to their online accounts. They are not looking for zillions of apps. So on that level it's a solid bit of hardware design.

I hope if the interest is there Nokia - in private at least - give 3rd party developers the signal that they are very much still interested in this platform's capability in future.

Meego, seriously? How anyone would even consider this phone with a virtually non-supported platform is beyond me. Yes, there are an elite bunch who will buy it just to stick a full on linux distro on there but in reality, is it really worth it considering what you can do with Android and now that some better alternatives such as the Pre3 are on the horizon.

It's a moot point. You're not allowed an N9. Nokia won't sell it in any country where they plan on releasing a first-gen Windows phone. No UK, USA, France, etc.

Doesn't really matter TBH.

Most phone manufacturers will only release an update or two for a phone anyway, the whole market is moving so fast that phones are only expected to last 1-2 years due to the stupidly fast rate operators are pushing new handsets onto customers.

I said phone, not platform. Who wants to make an app for the N9, when they could hit a bigger ecosystem like iOS or Android?

Exactly. Even Maemo got a fair bit of development activity because it had a geek following and an apparent corporate sponsor who'd perpetuate the platform. Meego was shot down before it was out of the gates, in favour of a platform which didn't even make it out of the lough.

Hm. The link doesn't work at my computer. Don't think that the coporatin with windows can pull them out of their crisis in high technology mobile phone market.
Windows itself isn't very good I think. In a few years android will be the most important system in this market. Far more important then Mac OS.
