HTC Sensation or Samsung Galaxy S 2?

Well guys ive basically talked myself into buying a new sim free phone as I want to replace my HTC HD2

Which one out of these two should I go for and whats the best price to buy sim free?

I dont mind getting a contract but it would have to work out the same price as buying a sim free phone and still have internet and texts included etc etc.

Also any dieas where is best to sell my HTC HD2? It is unlocked and in mint condition as its always had a screen protector and case on. I see people are selling used ones for about £140 on amazon so id be aiming for £140-150.

I would go with the HTC every time when it comes to Android.

Had a non-HTC first and then couldn't believe how much then Sense software enhanced the user experience.

I dont know which one to get I know the samsung has the best screen available, but ive never had a samsung before.

Also techradar says the samsung is the best

It may come down to price in the end

I have been a long term HTC user, dating back to the Universal. I jumped ship for a while with a ZTE Blade, and when it came time for a new contract I had no qualms about getting a non sense phone. I learnt when fiddling with the blade that there are plenty of free and paid for launchers and widgets out there, many are far more customisable than sense. Since gettting a G S2 I havent bothered with custom ROMS because it works well out the box, rooting and unlocking is feee and easy. To be honest both phones are great, but sense non longer sways me one way or the other.

Slightly larger res on the HTC, S2 is lighter and the battery lasts longer.

S2 is the way forward as a more standard res (currently).

Long term HTC owner here too but switched to the SGS2 and I'm glad I did.

All of you SII owners, are you not disappointed by the battery life? Two of my colleagues and my cousin have the SII and they love the phone but hate the battery life, my cousin has his screen at the lowest brightness as soon as the battery level hits 70%. The screen is not as impressive at a low brightness level which defeats the point of having such a wonderful screen.

Seems fine to me, phones been off charge for 11 hours, email sync running, wifi on for checking forums and its got 80% left.

I used to have poor battery life, but then I discovered something was keeping the phone awake. Since I sorted that, battery life is good even when overclocked and heavy use it will last until the end of the day.

I put Cognition ROM on my S2 and the battery life has been great, certainly better than stock.

I loved my HTC Desire but went for a Galaxy S II over the HTC Sensation and don't regret the decision at all.

I've had the S2 for about 2 weeks now and the battery is fine for a smartphone. I charge it overnight and with my daily usage (few calls, checking e-mails, and the odd website) I can go 2 days before a recharge. Since i'm at work during the day i find that you don't get to spend much time on the phone playing games, downloading apps, browsing youtube, etc.

Standard rom, screen set to auto brightness, turn off data unless i need to use it (which is rare since i have wifi at work and at home).

My old Sony Ericsson W715 went 7 days before a recharge so 2 day for me is absolutly fine.

I'm in a similar position... My HD2 digitizer died, so I bought a new lcd+digitizer off eBay... spent a day taking the phone apart but now cant put it back together again so think it's all going to go on the 'bay and see if I can re-coup some of the cost...

Why are you getting rid of the HD2? I was planning on keeping mine til the /next/ generation of phones comes out as I didnt feel either the Sensation or SGSII were enough of a step up from the HD2 to warrant a £400 outlay. My hand is being slightly forced now as I'm borrowing a friend's HD7s - alright phone, WP7 is different, not really my cup of tea - i like to tweak - but the killer part is the lack of 3G due to AT&T using different frequencies...

I'd want to either install MIUI or Cyanogenmod over the stock roms but neither have a stable release for either phone so I might just struggle onwards with 10k/s download speeds indefinitely.

Am half considering trying to pickup a cheap DHD off eBay but they seem to be holding their value quite well.... why did my HD2 have to die!

I'm certain there's a way of getting AT&T phones etc to play nice with 3G?

UK 3G networks operate at 2100MHz.

I dont know whether it's the same hardware inside the HD7s as the HD7 in terms of radio/chip/etc and whether it's just a software limitation but I've not seen anything to suggest I can get 3G on my HD7s

[e!] Using the ##3282# code I can try disabling 2G and enabling 3G (rather than 2G only or 'Auto') however this just results in me having no service. So I think there's something at either physical hardware level or something kernel-wise specifying the frequencies that are allowed. Otherwise this phone would do me fine for 12 months or so.

Im still stuck between the sensation and the galaxy 2. Have read reports of the galaxy running very hot (44 degrees) etc so not sure what to do . . . .
