    Orange increasing contract prices!

Apparently orange are increasing their prices for all contract customers!
    http://link.orangeworld.co.uk/studio...es/planupdate/
Peed me off as i finally went back to orange in june, yes its a small increase per month but i wasnt expecting this! Basically paying an extra months worth of usage on my 24month contract .

Reading through it i seem to get the feeling that they can increase the prices every 12 months of a contract.... so basically can hit you with ~10% as 24months is the norm now!. Stupid inflation...

    Re: Orange increasing contract prices!

Got a text informing of the same, and yes pretty much a joke.

Would like to know if T Mobile customers are also getting a price increase as they are both Everything Everywhere now. If not, why just Orange customers?

    Re: Orange increasing contract prices!

Info I read said only Orange, not T-Mobile.

Thankfully I renegotiated my contract recently so as I understand it I'm not subject to the increase.

    Re: Orange increasing contract prices!

How can they do this? If you sign up for a fixed price contract i dont see how they can say that fixed price has gone up.

My girlfriend has also had the same text. She was deceived about the price of the contract when she got it (they didn't inform her that they were discussing prices EX VAT) so she is already pretty pee'd off!

    Re: Orange increasing contract prices!

there is a massive thread on MSE about this as i was annoyed too,

lots of them are taking it to OFCOM and the such but to be honest this will cost alot more than 4.34 percent.. it will cost them thousands of customers in the long run. silly move.

Not sure there is much OFCOM can do, more something for trading standards isn't it?

Surely they can move the goalposts once your in a contract? Wouldn't that be breaching T&C's?

    Re: Orange increasing contract prices!

I remember a couple of years back that O2 changed their prices which resulted in a new contract being formed between O2 and customers. People were able to get out of their contracts early by telling O2 that they didn't want to continue with them and that was that.

I don't know if the situation is the same as I've no doubt that there's some insidious clause in the miles of paperwork attached to most mobile contracts these days but it's worth throwing this info in!

That's what im thinking, there is something in the Ts&Cs (as Hicks mentioned) about being able to adjust the prices after 12 months but i haven't had a chance to look at it, even if i did i suspect it would be in the usual mind-frick legal speak and will go over my head anyway.

I will certainly not be buying into any more long term contracts, il just buy the handset outright and sit on a month by month one from now if this is the way things are going to go. You seem to get much more competitive pricing in the contracts doing this and overall the costs to you are not much different.

    Re: Orange increasing contract prices!

Ive been looking at this much more as im really peed off just on the principle of things, fair enough if they need to up prices they should have just bloody increased it for new customers/contracts!. Its apparently this section thats allowing them to do it:
"terminating your Contract because Orange has changed its terms
4.3 You may also terminate your Contract if we vary its terms, resulting in an excessive increase
in the Charges or changes that alter your rights under this Contract to your detriment. In such
cases you would need to give us at least 14 days written notice prior to your Billing Date (and
within one month of us telling you about the changes). However this option does not apply if:
4.3.1 we have increased the Charges by an amount equal to or less than the percentage increase
in the All Items Index of Retail Prices published by the Central Statistical Office in the Monthly
Digest of Statistics in any 12 month period; or"

Pretty bad really, ive never read my T&C online... i read the paper copy they sent me when i took my contract out, i missed this and i dont see why i should get penalised when they send me T&C with like size 2 font which i CANT READ, all to save maybe a page! I wouldnt have signed it if i saw a clause like this.

I wont be going back to Orange, to think i went with vodafone --> virgin mobile ---> orange, thought orange would be better after all these years... last time i used them they screwed me over £150 by saying i owed them money for certain bills which infact didnt exist, they failed on multiple accounts charging more than the correct amount (finally sorted that after having left them for 6 months... bloody useless) and then i come back giving them another chance as its been like 5 years and then i realised they still charge for bloody delivery reports, stupid but i just stopped using them but this new increase takes the biscuit...

Im going to say it, Virgin Mobile was better than this! Customer support agents all saying its the government forcing them to put it up, ignorant script helpers!. Even three was solid for me, the only time they mucked about was when i wanted to finally leave after many years but that only took a mere few days extra so yeah stupid flipping orange.

They have now lost my custom indefinitely after i finish the remaining 16months... knew signing a 24month contract was the beginning on the end .

Similar with Vodafone. They sold 'unlimited' internet and then capped this to '500MB'.

A quick call later and the contract was cancelled in our favour.

Keep in mind that contracts normally allow price increases as long as they are reasonable in regards to the service offered (or at least they often have this written into them). Don't know on the legalities of it so worth checking out.

Why would you go with ANY contract if you can get giffgaff for no money? Unless you're tidied up already of course...

I made a switch from O2 and not looking back. Unlimited data/texts and 250 any network/time minutes for a tenner cannot be bad! My missus is on the same network meaning we can chat for free. Win/win situation really!

If you have the £10, £15 or £20 goodybag (i.e. wherever we say data is unlimited) then there is NO Fair use policy.
Unlimited - At giffgaff 'unlimited' means 'unlimited', so play fair and play nice, so it stays that way.

    Important Abuse Note:

Abuse basically means anything you do that is an abuse of our service i.e. using it in a way that it is not intended for as a consumer mobile product.

    - For SMS: using the SIM as a SIM gateway; reselling our service to another business etc.
    - For Voice: reselling our service.
    - For Data: reselling the service; using the SIM outside a mobile device e.g. as a mobile dongle to tether to a PC.
    From - http://support.giffgaff.com/app/answ...sage-policy%3F

Provided you use the data for your phone and have one of the correct packages (which are crazily cheap compared to other networks), there is no FUP.

    Pretty amazing.

I was quiet happy with giffgaff for about 6 months, tethered on occasions as well. Only reason I jumped ship was the lack of signal at my new job.
