    desire hd update +dropbox

Had a system update notification today, so downloaded and installed it... and then a little while later, dropbox emailed me to say that they've increased my storage by 3gb because I have a HTC phone.
I've also now got the same lock screen as the sensation - allows you to jump into an app when unlocking; saving seconds!

I've got an unbranded desire, and have not rooted / installed a different rom.

If you're in a similar situation, and want to get the update, then go to settings, about phone, and software updates, and you can get it to check occasionally/ force a check.

(if your phone has an operator logo /apps on it by default, then sorry, you'll have to wait til they've played around with it before you get it)

The software version i have now is: 2.3.5

Missed this thread somehow! I've got the update just prior to Christmas and the battery life has really taken an absolute nose dive when previously it could last up to two days before needing a charge even with a few calls and text messages being sent. This happens even after a clean restart. Have you or anyone else found this?

Battery life on these seems to be directly linked to the radio firmware in the ROM.

Whenever they release a new ROM they normally include a new radio firmware (a lot of them are provider-branded as well, so there are absolutely tons of radio firmwares out there).

Unfortunately, you need to root the phone to update the radio firmware.....on the plus side, the battery hoggers normally give the strongest signals.

Interesting I hadn't considered the radio could be to blame! I should perhaps give rooting a go, I'll have a look on xda-developers! Thanks

Do u still get the dropbox boost if ur not running HTC sense? coz 1st thing i did to my HTC desire HD was Root it and put Cyanogen7 on it, for mainly alot less bloatware thats in sense plus AOSP roms r much better on battery life.

Coz if i ony need sense to gain the extra DB space i can flash a sense 3.5 android 2.3.7 rom, get the space then reflash CM7 or CM9beta ICS rom

So to follow on from this, I've used the Advanced ACE Hack Kit (via Ubuntu Live CD as recommended in the manual) to root my phone (involved downgrading before root, super cid etc) and I'm now running BeatMod ICS 6.2 Beta Battery life back to how I like it, not really missing sense as I never used friendstream or the other supplied apps!

Hmm, after seeing this I'm somewhat tempted to root and put a different ROM on my Desire HD, just because it's nice to have a more up to date version of Android. That said, I think I'll miss Sense 3.0
