Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

another vote for cheaper contract. Rooting is a decent option also, some really good roms out there for the desire!

Dont think i would bother with the sensation, its a great handset but there is going to be some interesting things coming out over the next few months.

Glad to see im not the only one who thinks HTC build quality is much much better than samsung!

i prefer HTC styling over samsung and my contract is nearly over like yourself, i was looking towards the XE like others as its HTC and im a big fan of custom roms. it also looks like the best logical upgrade but also in no rush either.

Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

I'm at 21 months with my Desire now, having bought it the week it came out.

I'm holding off until the two years are up, at which point I will run, screaming, away from Vodafone and into the arms of pretty much anyone else.

Srsly: I can't be the only one thinking "Mmmmmmmmm.... iPhone"

    Can I?

Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

I'm pretty content with my SGS2 after 7 months having upgraded from a Desire. It's still holding up well against the newer handsets
eg. compared to the Sensation XE - more ram, maybe faster GPU (I can't find solid source at the moment), samoled+, more internal storage... It even out-specs the galaxy nexus for most things except the screen.

I was a little worried what I read about the "build quality" when I first got it but after living with it and dropping it multiple times, I'm pretty confident that it's solid enough compared to my old HTC Desire... I'm very glad I chose it over the Sensation back then, was much cheaper at the time too!

I'm waiting for the SGS3. I was very tempted by the Note though!

Keep your phone, ditch the contract move to giffgaff and see what happens in a few months as far as new handsets go, that's what I did and I'm still rocking my old dhd as none of the new handsets leap out at me tbh, not sure what the desire is like tho..

The same as SiM I went from a HTC Desire to a Galaxy S2 and I am thoroughly impressed with this phone.

I knocked my Desire of the dining room table 2 days after I got it and the screen smashed so I had to get that fixed but the gorilla glass on the S2 is something else. This phone has been dropped multiple times from greater heights than my desire ever was and there is not a mark on it.

Speed wise going from a desire to a GS2 is like going from a Ford to Ferrari

The Desire has the exact same Gorilla Glass as the SGS2. It just goes to show that Gorilla Glass is not indestructible. How a device lands and onto what surface is what mostly determines whether the glass will break or not.

    This. http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/p...-products-list

Managed to smash my HD2 when it did a 720 and landed face down on pavement. I'm pretty sure if it landed at any other angle it would have survived.

Catch me on msn Dave, if you are looking at phones with Vodafone (If you want to port your number you need to go away to PAYG on a different network then back again) let me know, been looking at some myself (HTC Titan/Lumia 800 on WP7 and the Galaxy S2/Galaxy Nexus/Desire XE/XL on Android)

It's amazing how many of us are in the same boat. My T-Mob contract ends in November so I've got some time.

If HTC sticks to their regular schedule then they'll announce their new phone at the MWC and then we'll get it by autumn.

I never would have thought of it but I agree with what people are suggesting. If you're contract is up soon get a cheaper plan till what you want comes out.

Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

I've been eligable for an upgrade from my Desire for a few months now. Still nothing I want to upgrade to. Waiting for the Galaxy S3, but that might be too far away now. Part of me is tempted to see what kind of deal I can get on the S2 on a shorter term contract.

The Desire is getting just a little long in the tooth now, but I also need to replace it so I can use it as a work phone. A Nokia C2 is just painful to use!

Often the difference between a retentions tariff and getting a new phone is so stark, you realize how much you have overpaid for the handset.

It's often better to buy sim free, or even better sim free of a slightly older model.

Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

I'm in the same boat. I'm more than happy with my Desire at the moment. So I don't think I would upgrade immediately. More than likely I'll keep the phone and move to GiffGaff just to keep myself rolling.

I did some research for a friend who is in the exact same situation as the most of us. And the top choices were Galaxy Nexus (from Google - Android 4.0) or Samsung Galaxy S 2. Personally I wouldn't got with HTC again. I'm over HTC Sense and much prefer a cleaner & faster UI. Plus they aren't exactly speedy with updates are they now.

I did quite fancy the Motorola Atrix when it came out, but I don't know what it's custom scene is like.

Have they fixed the issue regarding deleting all the text messages on the phone? Mines done it a number of times now?

If so, that is the main annoyance that has me considering changing...
