Yes I know - I run Oxygen on my HTC Desire at the moment. But why fiddle when you can have a good OOBE when you purchase a Galaxy Nexus.

And many more of your electronic items... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxconn#Major_customers etc etc. Why are people so bothered that the iPhone might have been built by 13 year olds but are perfectly happy for their Android phone, laptop and desktop PC to be built by 13 year olds? If you've got a problem with something being made by a 13 year old, you're going to have to cut a lot of gadgets out of your life.

Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

Well I called T-Mobile to see what they could do with my tariff. I was on 1200 minutes, 1200 texts, Unlimited Internet, unlimited landline, all for £45, which was for 18 months and the Desire was free, a really good deal at the time.

My usage has changed a lot in the past year, and with the unlimited landline calls it turns out I'm averaging well under 100 minutes a month, in fact in the past 3 months, the most I used in a month was 86! So I'm not on 100min, 100 text, unlimited landline and unlimited internet on a rolling contract for..... £10/month!!

To say I'm pleased is an understatement. Now I'm quite happy to wait a few months for the S3. Even considering a SIM free phone again if I can find a good deal and then jump onto a faster upgrade cycle.

Keep the Desire till it breaks or you see something you really like. In the mean time drop to a cheaper payment.

You just don't get the negotiability if you want an iPhone.

I'm in the same boat as OP. I negotiated with a few different networks, was between the iPhone 3GS and HTC Desire available at the time, but if I wanted an iPhone it was £15 more a month, AND an initial payment for the handset, for a longer contract, with fewer minutes!

Also, just out of interest, what's your issue with Vodafone? I'm quite contented with them at the moment.

Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

A couple of months back, I moved from a Desire to a Sensation. After an initial period of purchase rejection (I always think I have made the wrong choice) I'm really happy with it. Although very similar, the screen just makes everything that much nicer and full web pages (ie. not apps) arent something that I avoid now. Now this might be subjective, but for its size, it feels a lot smaller than it actually is, so doesnt feel like I'm carrying a tablet about! If you can get it cheap/free, I'd say its a decent choice, and there are of course custom ROMs etc that you can dabble with.

Another choice might be a Desire S. I only say this because I negotiated an upgrade for my wife and I was very impressed with it. Much snappier than the original (Obv) but felt very well built and light, and battery life was really good. Its a pretty low end (relatively) handset so probably going to be free, so if you are happy with the size and functionality of the Desire, then this could be an option for a bit more oomph. And its got a fair amount of internal storage, so no need to mess with ext partitions etc to get all the space you need.

Or you could wait, as stated, the latest handsets of last gen are all coming down in price.

Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

Well, don't think I'll be sticking with the HTC Desire - I've now got the reboot issue. Randomly started today, and the phone doesn't stay on for more than 30-40 minutes at a time. After it crashes you have to remove the battery before it will come back to life. Somewhat inconvenient, as you'd imagine.

Now here's the problem. The OneX. Quad Core, 1.5ghz, 32gb. 720*1280 screen. Not due for another month as far as I can tell. Likely to be in demand, so little by way of discounts (working on that....). And my HTC Desire doesn't work properly - prompting me to want to change as soon as possible (to help minimise any downtime from the phone being repaired.)

So, OneX - worth it? Or should I go for a discounted Sensation?

I'm thinking I'd regret not getting the OneX....or would I?

Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

I would be really tempted to wait. I know you don't need something better than the Sensation, but you'll probably regret grabbing a brand new Sensation when it's obsolete inside a month.

Besides, if the deals on the Sensations are good now, they're only going to improve once the OneX comes out. The Sensation is still the top-of-the-range HTC on the market.

Just under clock it to like 500Mhz, should still be usable and not reboot

This would be useful, how do I do that? Its on the stock rom, and I wouldn't like to try rooting/flashing with it being as (un)stable as it is...

It has currently decides it doesn't want to boot properly
