Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

    Evening all,

Just checking my Vodafone account and it appears I'm now eligible for an upgrade.

Any phones just around the corner or are the decent ones already out? Anything worth waiting for?

I'm not in any rush as my HTC Desire is still perfectly functional (and indeed, I still like it) but....well...its upgrade time, and it would be rude not to if there is a good deal to be had

So, what would you choose if you were upgrading from a HTC Desire?

I am in the same situation with my Desire, i was going to get a Galaxy Nexus but there is not microSD card slot!

My money is going to be with a Samsung GSII, great phone

If you're in no rush, you might want to wait and see what the SGS III is like when Samsung announce it next month (am assuming it'll be released in May like the SGSII was).. SGSII is a good phone but it's 8 months old -- though if you are always waiting for the next phone you'll be waiting for ever

Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

Why not have a look at the Motorola Atrix or the new Razr, with Moto being bought by Google the updates should be quicker than other manufacturers.

The Samsung Galaxy S 2 is a nice handset and so is the HTC Sensation, HTC with the updates arnt to clever as you will know owning a Desire.

I have the Desire HD and upgrading in about 3 months time, same kind of situation, started looking already.

Im all for rooting etc anyway, so updates will be before pretty much anyone. If you have not rooted your desire yet, DO IT and put ICS 4.0 on it OP!

Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

I was in the same position, albeit 3/4 months ago.

In the end I went for the Sensation XE, as I just felt it to be nicer than the SGSII. No regrets so far.

Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

I rooted mine while removing the simlock. Really easy to do, there is a program you can get from XDA developers and just read the manual, only 2 small pages, takes about 20 mins to do. I now have a link in my menu called Rom Manager so I should be able to get another rom for it, will get ICS when they have it sorted.

It is pretty much sorted apart from the Vid camera

I am using it as my 24/7 ROM now, ditched Oxygen

If you can wait for the Samsung S3, you should get that...it's gonna have a bigger battery, better camera specs, better processor, etc etc.

I know it's not what the OP asked, but yeah I'm doing this at the moment. Unlocked my phone and am now on a rolling £10 giffgaff tarriff which I am very happy with.

I've no doubt one day in the next few months I'll get the twitch back and then upgrade, but still : D

Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

If you want a phone now, I'd say Sensation XE/SGS2. But there's SGS3 on the horizon, plus an HD-screen quad-core beast from HTC, but I guess there'll always be something better just round the corner...

Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

I saw an advert in one of todays newspapers for a contract (24months) for a SGS II for £20 a month from a popular supermarket that begins in T and ends in O.

sounds like a cheap deal for one of the best phones that were out in 2011.

Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

Just got a great deal on the Sensation XE (faster processor than the SGII and much better build quality).

12 Month contract with Vodafone, £36 a month, 300 mins, 500mb of data, 3000 texts, free phone.

The amount of minutes doesn't really sound that impressive, but when you add it up, the phone by itself is worth £400 and the £36 a month for 12 months is only its only £432! After the 12 month contract I can whatever I like again...

Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

Sensation is the obvious move, but it's not a huge boost over the Desire so I would be tempted to get a cheaper contract for a while instead.

Re: Best upgrade from a HTC Desire?

I went from a rooted desire running oxygen rom to the sensation xe.
The Sensation is a fab phone mega quick, easy to root and the beats headphones and sound are very good. I thought I would miss the desire, but I have ended up giving that phone to the wife as it felt like a toy compared to the XE so a vote here for the XE

I have kept the stock rom on seeing as it already has the quicker processor speed and the larger rated battery and all the ics and asop roms have bugs or dont fully function 100% but also there is a promised ics update due in Feb
