    Vodafone retentions deal - thoughts?

    Hi guys,

Would appreciate a fresh set of eyes on what I've been offered by Vodafone.

Samsung Galaxy SII or Samsung Galaxy Note
    300 minutes
    Unlimited texts
    500MB Internet
    2GB BT Openzone
    £25 x 18 month

They also offered me a sim-only deal of:

    600 minutes
    Unlimited texts
    500MB Internet
    £10.25 x 12 months

I'm currently only paying about £10/month for my 100 minutes & 500 texts package, so increasing to £25 feels like a big increase that I'm finding hard to justify. Plus I don't need 300 minutes - 100 or fewer would be fine. However, the other contracts I was offered (with lower minutes) weren't significantly cheaper - they incurred a high phone cost.

I'm not set on these phones but it would have to be Android, I don't particularly want a low-end phone (e.g. Galaxy Y), and I would prefer a Samsung or Motorola.

    Any advice would be welcome.

    Thanks,

    Leggie

Roughly, the line 'rental' is £10 month, so the phone is costing £15 month for 18 months, that is £270. If you can buy the phone you want for less and can afford the outlay, that is the way to go, otherwise the 'extended purchase' and the 18 month lock in is the best deal.

It's not a bad deal in all fairness, the SII is still a solid handset and for an 18month contract it's not a bad deal.

    However, 18 * 25= 450 - With the other contract offer 18 * 20.25 = 184.50.

    450 - 184.50 = 295.50

That's near 300 for a handset, and there are a lot of half decent android devices around now that can be had for less than £200 (http://direct.asda.com/HTC-Evo-3D-An...efault,pd.html).

I don't know about you but 500MB is not enough data for me, I always tend to stack up at just under 1GB so you may want to consider that.

The SIM only deal isn't too bad, other networks do similar deals 3 do a deal with more data for a little extra.

However, I don't rate the 3 network, I've used it for around 3 months and network coverage can be rather patchy and the speed of the network for mobile data isn't the best but it is adequate. I used to be with Vodafone and I do regret switching at times but the data offering was never adequate for myself.

I took that same SIM only deal for my wife a while back, you also get the 1GB BTOpenzone Wifi option (well, I did).

If you have the spare cash and the handset you want is less than ~£270 then I'd go with what peterb said
