wifi tethering

Right i experienced some pretty annoying issues today on my laptop which meant i couldnt connect to the universities wifi, however my O2x(android) connected fine as always! I tried to search for wifi tethering but im baffled as to why such a simple feature isnt common (google hasnt helped ).

Essentially i want my to Phone to act as like a repeater/router/hub, i want it to accept a wifi connection from my laptop (or usb) and then use its own wifi to connect to the universities network and transmit the data.

All the tethering apps seem to just shut wifi down and use my mobile data, which is generally PEE POOR from stupid orange and i dont want to hit my data limit .

Am i being stupid and missed something(google) or is this generally not possible?

I believe it would require a device with 2 wifi cards - one to connect to your laptop, one to connect to the uni network. I don't think a wifi card can associate with two networks at once.

Have you tried connecting your phone to the wireless then using a USB cable to tether it to your laptop (so it effectively becomes a USB wifi dongle)? Should be a default behaviour on the O2X, but I admit I haven't tried it myself (worked fine on my old HTC Magic though!).

I will try now, i admit i didnt have my usb cable on me today but im home now so can try that quickly. Will report back if it works .

Yup - you'd need two wifi cards on the device.

I tried everything to use my android as a repeater and it does not work.
