Android Market / Google Play Store ruins everything!

    Hi all,

I'm at the end of my tether. I factory reset my phone because for the last couple of weeks Android Market hasn't worked, it's force closed as soon as I tried to open it, however I just didn't have time to sort it out. Now having done the factory reset, it's updated to Google Play Store (nobody told me...) and for a few minutes I was able to download and install apps as normal once more. Then I got the notification for an update in T&Cs for Google Play, and since then I'm getting "Sorry... process stopped unexpectedly" errors every time I try to download anything. Also back to it's old tricks with the mail process stopping unexpectedly.

I am so angry with this phone right now. If HTC/Google wanted me to get an iPhone for my imminent upgrade, they're going about it the right way.

    /Rant

    Anyone having similar issues?

Which phone? Which version of Android? The easiest fix is to stick a custom rom on it

Or if you dont want to root it, find a copy of the standard rom and reload that.

titanium backup will allow you to freeze the market updater, then you just uninstall the google play updates and see if it works!

Re: Android Market / Google Play Store ruins everything!

HTC Desire, Android 2.2.2, software 2.33.161.6

I've been thinking of flashing the ROM and playing with some modified versions for a while, and I just got a 32GB micro SD to try and cure the phone's severe memory drought. I just don't like my hand being forced, and I'm getting married on Friday so I'm a bit too busy to muck with it now.

    Thanks for the advice

Re: Android Market / Google Play Store ruins everything!

I think the problem is that 2.2.2 is quite old.

I would update to either a 2.3 version (for stability) or a ICS version (for cutting edge). It will take some research on xda-developers so do it after the wedding/honeymoon (congrats btw!)

In the mean time, you can try to uninstall the market updates as GoNz0 suggests, but you will need to root before you can freeze the updater. From what I remember with my HTC desire, rooting was quite quick and easy with unrevoked. (Maybe someone who has done it more recently can point you to the correct thread on xda)

Re: Android Market / Google Play Store ruins everything!

Thanks SiM. So when it comes to updating to 2.3 is that as part of the custom ROM? Because there's no update for my current phone software according to the phone itself. I'll have a read on XDA after the nuptials!

You can do the official update:
    http://techradar.com/news/phone-and-...oid-2-3-986502

But you are probably better off flashing a custom one as it will give you extra features (eg move data partition to sd)

who is your provider? because if your phone is saying there is no update then something is weird because they rolled out the OTA update for 2.3 nearly a year ago on the DHD

and that link that SiM has put in the post above this is for the Desire not the Desire HD

I'm with Vodafone. I thought it a bit odd myself, but they seem to be consistently behind on their updates

Re: Android Market / Google Play Store ruins everything!

There is no 2.3 OTA update for the Desire, the one I linked is official, but not available OTA because it's a unsupported version for advanced users
