HTC Desire to One series jump

Anyone else thinking about making this jump?

I had the original desire which was then replaced by my insurance after a breakage to a Desire S and it have come round to contract renewal time. Not sure if i m actually going to start a new 24 month phone contract or buy the one S outright and either just stick with the 12 month sim only at an extremely competitive price 3 have offered me or switch to someone like giff gaff.

Probably edging more towards buying the phone outright but at £400+ at the moment it aint cheap!

Cheapest contract i have seen is
    24months t-mobile at £24 = £580 - but i dont like t-mobile
    If i stayed on 3 then 32 x 24 £768

If i bought outright then 24 x £12 (on the deal 3 have offered me, i can probably negotiate something different after the first 12 months)+ £400 One S = £700

Kinda annoys me that they have gone with fixed batteries and no micro SD slot now aswell but i love sense and never been a fan of the plasticy Samsungs.

Perhaps i could wait for the smaller One?

    Thoughts?

Re: HTC Desire to One series jump

I'm thinking the same thing Biscuit. I'm just holding on to see what happens with the Galaxy S3.

I'm surprised at how quickly the One X has become available world wide after announcement, this is one Apple influence I can fully get behind! I'm hoping that Samsung can pull off something along the lines of "here is the S3, you can buy it tomorrow" or similar when they finally get round to showing everyone the goods.

Re: HTC Desire to One series jump

18 months would be nice but that's still quite expensive at around £830. I dont use anywhere near that many minutes mind. I also disregard the beats headphones as they are complete crap in my experience so far... no offence.

With 3 i can get all you can eat data and the contract prices they offered me on the phone are actually cheaper when you add everything up (including the 2 month early upgrade making the contract technically 22 months if there is something you want availalable. If there isnt you can switch to a sim only contract 2 months early until there is something...) so im kinda tempted. I think im gunna take saracens advice and check all the disclaimers and paperwork first though to make sure there isnt some dodgy clause in there with ropes me into a possible price change 1 year in.

Honestly im not interested in samsung at all, their hardware always feels a bit crap in comparison IMO and im not a huge fan of their sense equivilent. I dont think i could bring myself to get anything other than HTC, i have been so happy with them for 4 years or something now.

None taken, it was simply part of the deal offered.

If I'd gone for a 24 month contract it would have been £5 less a month, but my worries over the life of the integrated battery (seeing as my pre-replacement HTC Desire was struggling to last a full day on a single charge after 18 months) and that it didn't last 18 months (hence the replacement) meant I stuck with the 18 month option. There was a bill credit somewhere in the mix aswell.

That said, it is the early adopter tax - if I'd waited, then I could have got something cheaper I'd imagine, but I'd get less for my HTC Desire when I sell it (as it will be older) and would have to find some form of contract in the mean time, which would probably involve extra hassle in porting numbers etc.

Battery life expectancy is a valid point, did you ever try and contact HTC about that as i have friends who have had a similar problem and it turned out to me be something on the motherboard they fix for free? Same thing happened to mine but i had dropped it and smashed the screen anyway so i got a cheap upgrade

Hassle of switching around network and being part of the early adoption is part of my decision i guess, the idea is in my head now so its always bad news for my wallet!

Re: HTC Desire to One series jump

Another reason to wait is the contract prices for the X might have settled a little.

I also need to speak to T-Mobile about it, see if they can do me a deal. I'm currently on £10/month for unlimited internet, unlimited landline calls, 100 minutes and 50 texts. That is more than enough minutes and texts for me because of the land line bundle (thick heavy stone walls, mobiles will always struggle in our place for signal).

I know they have to make money on the handset, but I really don't need more bundled extras than I have at the moment, they also make quite a bit from me on international roaming calls. I think I spent nearly £1,000 on that last year (all expensed), so hopefully they see me as a good customer

I'm just really disappointed that the One X doesn't have a micro-SD slot. If it wasn't for that I think I would be calling T-Mobile as soon as I get home (in Algeria right now).

Yeah, 16/32GB internal aint bad though. Cant see me needing more than that really. On top of that HTC claim to have some kind of new cloud service in the pipeline which may well partner up with cloud service providers, hopefully not too long as the sense sync cloud was pretty useful! With all you can eat data it might work quite well.

Don't they give you 25GB with Dropbox? Or am I thinking of something else?

    Yup! Free for two years.

Re: HTC Desire to One series jump

I may seem a bit behind the times, but I'm simply not willing to get a phone without removable storage yet - I do swap my card between phone, tablet and PC for transferring stuff around and use it much like a memory stick...

It's the ONLY thing that puts me off the One X!
