wtf happened to hexus!!!!???!!!?!!!?
I guess my report is delayed till tonight because of the upgrade...
Any idea if I will need to order a micro SIM seperately on T-Mobile?
Ordered a One X last night, but they are waiting for stock online (some stores have them though, I just can't get to a store very easily).
If your starting a new contract and ordering the phone through t-mobile i would have thought the whole lot would come together. Best thing to do is give them a call i would say!
I think that is what Vodafone had intended, but a system glitch stopped it happening. They shipped one out on a Saturday service for me (which arrived before the phone!). I did have to phone up an register the sim when I changed over though, it wasn't automatic.
On another topic, anyone found a desktop cradle for the One X yet? The only one I can find is this which has more features than I want and at £50, is more than I really wanted to spend.
I want one of these but my contract does not finish until next year so I'm going to wait until after mwc next year before I take my upgrade
Had a good play with the One X my mate has just got to replace his GS2 - have to say its a lovely bit of kit... the screen is amazing!
Side by side with my galaxy s2 - both displaying the same image (and my GS2 has the voodoo screen app installed for calibration) - the One X looked miles better! Whites are a crisp white, blacks are equally as black, and images generally dont have that 'over saturated' look the galaxy can get.
On the negative side though - WTF was HTC thinking when they decided not to have hardware 'menu' button???!!! Firstly - whilst the app switcher is beautiful, its ALWAYS been a function of long pressing the home button... it doesn't need a physical button! Second and most importantly, the lack of menu button causes non ICS friendly apps to have a thick black bar at the bottom with a software menu button - which in games / full screen apps ruins it for me.
I know you can already root and change that - but out of the box (which will be most peoples experience) its an utterly stupid move. :(
IIRC, it's what Google are pushing for, not HTC. I agree though - much prefer buttons! :)
It actually hasnt bothered me. Some of my comments so far though.
My Brief Report:
The first thing i noticed when i switched it on was obviously the screen. Its just incredible! ll the reports on it are completely true, its second to nothing that is out in the market at the moment. Text is insanely clear, even when its tiny!
The one thing i will point out, and im noticing more and more, is that the CNET report on the phone where touching the sides with a bit of pressure does that whole pixel changing colour thing you get from touching LCDs is noticable. Its not terrible and it doesnt seem to really do any harm, but its definately there.
The overall feeling of the device is quite odd. Whilst it feels quite sturdy and rigid, the thinness of it gives the illusion that its actually fragile. Im kinda used to it now but for the first few hours i was treating it like a piece of paper... well without the folding anyway.
The size of it is taking some getting used too, i dont have particualy small hands but they are not massive. I couldnt get on with the stock keyboard and had to install swiftkey X with the shortened keys. I still struggle to type things with one hand because if you are reaching across with your hand you loosen your grib on the back and it feels a bit like you are losing balance and it might slip out of your hand. This is perhaps to do with camera shifting a large amount of the balance to the top.
The next thing that i noticed was the speed, its very very rapid both in general navigation and the wireless adapters.
Browsing the web in both mobile and full browsing is effortless and smooth. An additional feature (which i assume is ICS based) is the 'reading mode' which picks the main body from the webpage and presents it like reading a book. If anyone has used the 'clearly reading' plugin for chrome, its kinda like that. Its really useful!
Onto Sense 4.0. Well whilst the actual functionality and widgets of it are very slick and sexy, it still seems a bit buggy and i have had a few more force closes, stalls and 'soft reboots'. By this i mean Sense reboots but not the whole phone. Dont take this the wrong way, its not all the time and its not really bad. Fortunately because the phone is so damn fast it sorts it outself out really quickly, and some of the crashes could be because the 3rd party software and widgets aren't optimised for the device yet. Other than that, its similaly customisable and user friendly but it does feel like it has a lighter touch over previous versions of sense. Nothing seems to have been lost or gained, but its more comfortable.
The camera is another bit of a funny one. It has some really good features like automatically taking photos when it detects a smile and a huge number of effects/filters you can quickly apply for some interesting photos. The quality of the photos is also quite good, but not so much that i would think, 'il leave my camera at home' anymore than i did with my desire s; its still a phone camera.
One one thing that really stands out about the camera is the speed at which you can take photos... bam bam bam bam bam bam bam... seriously its rapid as hell.
My gran just randomly called me, so i got to try out the phone as its 'primary' function. It was really clear, you could tell that the only thing holding it back was the crappy old thing that my gran uses at her end.
Overall, im pretty happy. It hasnt quite bridged the gap between a tablet and a phone the way the galaxy note does, but it comes pretty close and its remained very portable. If anyone else is thinking of getting one as your contract is up, i would say hell yes, but for those who still have time on your contract i wouldnt rush into it, i think it needs a firmware update before it will be completely ready.
Thanks for the report Biscuit!
I'm really thinking of buying this to replace my iphone 4! I don't know if it'll be better than my iphone, is android better? hmmm
Better is really very subjective. It's different.
I don't like how iPhones work, I much prefer the Android interface. I also don't like how you are locked into Apple and iTunes. Sure, you are locked into android once you start purchasing apps and other content to a certain extent, but at least you have multiple manufacturers handsets to choose from and various handset price brackets as well.
Biscuit, out of interest what smartphone(s) did (have) you have before this one and how does this compare?
I've had my Desire since launch and haven't had a serious need to move on until now. The current batch of phones have really started making my hands itch :)
I had a Desire for a year and 6 months then a Desire S up until now (replaced by insurance when it broke). The problem i had with the desire was a lack of onbuilt storage, android moved on and apps got bigger but there isnt really much you can do without buying a really high speed sd card and putting a fancy third party rom on. Even then i had problems with bugs and FCs. The community also started to die off and support was dying. Once i got my Desire S i didnt change anything, it was just stock. Soon after i got it it updated to sense 3.0 and it was really feature packed. The problem with this is that the software progressed past the point the hardware could handle it and it got a bit laggy.
Operationally, its been a fairly easy transition, with some of the very minor exceptions (which are likely to be temporary anyway as apparently a patch is coming soon) i outlined in my quick report its an allround improvement. If you are coming from the original desire then even the overall size of the phone shouldn't be much of an issue as the bezel is smaller bringing the size of the two phones fairly close to each other. Im trying to think of something i miss from the Desire S and to be honest, so far there is nothing. Not even the battery or the SD slot. 32GB is plenty for me!
Im about to go on a long journey though so i will see how the battery fares there.
interesting news about improving battery life:

Lee!!!!
Ive found out where the missing power management options has gone wrong
For some reason HTC misplaced the .apk and put it in /system/bin instead of system/app
You will find it /system/bin/NvCPLSvc.apk and it needs moving to system/app.
For users who already have LeeDroiD installed, use a file manager with root access and move NvCPLSvc.apk from/system/bin to system/app and reboot.

I have found out about someone in germany who just received an OTA Update for his One X some minutes ago. He says that the display flickering with max. brightness and some greyish background has completely gone.
Another thing he mentioned is that Sense does not restart or reload again after exiting some Apps. He just tried many different apps which caused before a Sense reload after pressing the Home Button but this does not happen any more.
Furthermore the Notification Bar in Sense isnt transparent any more. All the glitches caused by Sense applications by pressing fast at the notification bar have been gone.
I will try to find out more, Greetings
