    Need new mobile phone

    Hello

I currently have a Samsung V200 with modified firmware which is a great phone but has a lack of features. But my mates just bought a NEC e313 and i like the video features for it. So i want a new phone but not the e313. Heres what i want in the new phone:-

Pay as you go - there is no chance i can pay for a contract phone
    Video recording and playback
    Polyphonic tones
Nice design, nothing as big as ugly as the e313
    Preferably a samsung

I have a budget of about £300 for it.

Hope you can help me with this, thanks in advance

I bought a Nokia 6230, they cost £270 ish new from a retailer, does all of the above.

You can also upgrade the memory using an SD card, and use it as an MP3 player (can use MP3/ACC as ringtones so you're not just stuck with polyphonic).

Im glad I chose this and not the 6600 in the end.

Not a Samsung, but depends on what you like in the end I guess

Had a few Nokia's (5110, 3310, 3330), very nice phones. I like the look of that phone also. But what networks do they come on? NO VODAFONE! i hate them! had a lot of bad experiences.

pay for contract by direct debit? you can get a lot better phones and free minutes if you go contract and itll work out less than £300 on 99% of contracts. Samsung e810 is very nice but its a girly phone perhaps.....my gf is getting it

nope, contract is a complete no-go. Currently cant afford to spend a lot on calls/texts, so topping up is better as i know im not gonna end up in debt each month. Plus, if people discover im on contract, they'll all want to use my phone, including my mates and girlfriend. Topping up is just the best way for me.

I bought the phone itself, then got a free 02 sim (limited free txts/mms/gprs per £10/month) - Im easily doing way better than I was with Orange PAYG. But 02 service is appalling in comparison.

donut, just buy the phone Sim Free, then you it's already factory unlocked so you're free to use whatever network you want - you only need to supply the sim card yourself.

The aforementioned 02 sim card I have is a very good thing to have, but then again, 3 have a PAYG SIM option now and some people like that (alot will tell you their service is piss poor tho, I dunno).

    What about a Samsung E700:

Or the new Samsung E800 looks alright but don't think it has video clips:

Faisal - Thanks, i prefer the E700 out of them. The E800 is just plain ugly imo and as i said, video is one of the main reasons im upgrading. So afaik none of them are much good, as samsungs site doesnt state the E700 can record video. My girlfriends mum has a rather nice samsung, only available on contract though and it does everything i want it to!

Up to now, Nokia 6230 is looking like my next phone.

    SonyEricson K700 (http://mobile-review.com/review/sony...-k700-en.shtml)

Lovely phone and im, it does all you wanted and looks lovely too. Not a samsung but the interface is so easy to use as its very logical you'll pick it up in a few mins.

    ~£280 SIM Free.

Yes but NEC have yet to make a good even barely useable phone imo. Go with the nokia, you wont regret it- its a proven model.

go for a 6230, for 270ish, get it unlocked (for free, theres remote unlocking sites on the net) then whack in ya voda sim - sorted

as for a e313, dont even think about it, i know somoene who has up, and upgraded from a 5110 (brick of the year, and pee poor nowadays) and now still uses the 5110 as she hates the e313, the video is all fun, but shes never been able to use it, the top up is crap, and she didnt get signal one it for a week and a half at one time

dont bother, but if you go, there only 29.99 now

Seems daft to buy a phone on pay as you go when you can get it on contract, ditch the contract sim card (if you really must) and buy a pay as you go sim card for cheaper in many cases
    my 2p anyway

Well, the e313's retail at £44.99 but you get £15 calling credit, so basically yeah, £29.99 for the handset. But you need to put a tenner on it each month or i *think* you need to ring 3 and re-register it/pay a fee to be reconnected.."No Thanks" I've used my mates a lot, its too fiddily, i hate it. Its impossible to navigate the menus. Usually i work phones out quite fast, but it took me ages to work out how to get that to the ringtone selection screen. Plus the tones are complete pants and we dont think theres anyway of getting new ones on there.
